These are fun and easy Watermelon Rice Krispie Treats are super easy to prepare and are great fun at any of your summer get-togethers! Classic Krispie treats become these sweet slices of watermelon that everyone will reach for.

Rice Krispie treats are definitely a family favorite here. My husband isn’t a fan of chocolate, but Krispie treats are one of his all-time favorites. So we make a lot of it! For summer meetings, it’s a great thing. And turning them into watermelon slices makes it even more fun!
Yes, it’s a few extra steps, but it’s really the same as the classic version. And people will be very impressed and ask you how you did it!

How to Make Watermelon Rice Krispie Treats
- Spray a 9-inch cake pan or 9-inch springform pan with nonstick spray.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine marshmallows and butter for the green part of the watermelon. Heat on high for 45 seconds. Remove from the oven, add the green food coloring and mix until smooth and melted. Add the rice krispie granola and mix until evenly combined and a nice green color.
- Place the green krispies in the pan and press the edges together. The rim will be 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick to form the watermelon’s “rind”. Set it aside while you make the middle.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, place the marshmallows and the butter for the red part of the watermelon. Heat on high for 1 minute. Remove from the microwave and add the red food coloring. Mix until smooth and turns a bright red color. Add the Rice Krispie Granola and mix until evenly combined.
- Pour the red krispies into the center of the cake pan and press into an even layer.
- Scatter mini chocolate chips on top and gently press down so the “noodles” stick.
Recipe tips and suggestions
- Spray or wet your hands with nonstick spray and shake off the excess water. Then you can press your Krispie treats into the pan and get them just the way you want them.
- Mini chocolate chips that look like “seeds” in size work best, but regular chocolate chips work well too.
- Want your Krispie treat to actually taste like watermelon? Try adding watermelon flavoring, which you can get from Amazon.
- I used Betty Crocker gel food coloring which you can get at any grocery store.
storage
As with all Krispie treats, these should be stored in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. They don’t freeze well, so it’s not something to really make far in advance.
