As the temperatures start to rise and the days get longer, there’s nothing like a refreshing frozen treat to cool you down. And what could be more refreshing than watermelon popsicles?

These popsicles are easy to make, require just a few ingredients, and are a healthy alternative to store-bought ice cream and popsicles. Not to mention, they are absolutely delicious! These are definitely making a regular appearance in my summer treat rotation.

These watermelon popsicles are the perfect way to beat the summer heat. With just a few ingredients and a little patience, you can make your own popsicles at home and enjoy them whenever you want. What not to love?

Making Watermelon Popsicles

Refreshing frozen treats

First, start by selecting a ripe watermelon. Look for a watermelon that feels heavy for its size, has a uniform shape, and has a creamy yellow spot on the bottom (this indicates it’s ripe). Then, cut the watermelon into small cubes and remove any seeds.

Next, add the watermelon cubes to a blender or food processor with some apple juice and blend until smooth. If you want the popsicles to be sweeter, you can also add a little agave syrup or honey. Pour mixture into popsicle molds and add popsicle sticks. Freeze the popsicles for at least 4 hours or until completely frozen.

When it’s time to enjoy your watermelon popsicles, remove them from the molds and serve. Popsicles should be bright pink and bursting with flavor. And the best part? They are ice cold and bursting with flavor!

For an even fresher twist, add a squeeze of lime juice to the watermelon and apple juice mixture before freezing.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try adding other fruits to the popsicle mix. Blueberries, strawberries and raspberries all pair well with watermelon. Use this as a base recipe and experiment with your preferences!

Want to make your popsicles more interesting? Add a few small pieces of chopped fruit and chopped fresh mint to each popsicle mold before pouring in the watermelon mixture.

If you don’t have popsicle molds, you can use small paper cups and wooden sticks in a pinch. But if you plan to make popsicles at least a few times per summer, it’s worth getting a cheap popsicle mold – I love this one.

Make creamy popsicles.

If you want your popsicles a little creamier, try adding coconut milk or yogurt to the watermelon mixture before blending.

This recipe also makes a great slushie if you’re too impatient to wait for the popsicles to freeze. Just blend the watermelon mixture with some ice cubes and serve!

And finally, if you want to turn these popsicles into a boozy treat for a summer party, add a splash of vodka or tequila to the watermelon mixture before freezing (remember to keep them out of reach of kids!).
