Vegetable oils regulate hormones | Healthy housekeeper

Hormone imbalance in a hurry! Peer-reviewed study shows that consumption of plant seed oil triggers hormone dysregulation and ovarian toxicity in just 28 days.

My first memory of the insidious displacement of traditional healthy fats like butter with modern vegetable oils came in the form of Florence Henderson of Brady Bunch Glory, shillings, for Wesson, a division of Blackrock-controlled multinational Conagra Foods.

Perhaps her most famous turn was singing the catchy jingle “Wessonality” in the TV commercial.

Even as a kid, I thought these commercials must be some subtle form of brainwashing.

Instinctively, I recoiled at the obvious and shameless grab for control of the public’s wallet.

Luckily, my mother never got involved with this nutritional propaganda. She always cooked with butter. I never saw a bottle of vegetable oil in her pantry.

Another nail in the seed oil coffin

Over the decades, more and more scientific research has emerged into how unhealthy modern vegetable oils are in the human diet.

It has long been known that factory fats actually make you fat, as opposed to nutritious traditional fats that promote healthy weight.

Also the magazine open heart found that the omega-6 polyunsaturated fat linoleic acid is likely a major contributor to coronary artery disease, particularly when consumed in the form of industrial seed oils, commonly referred to as “vegetable oils.” (1)

Hormone disruption in 28 days!

Now, early research suggests that vegetable oils are also likely hormone disrupters.

The study looked at both GMO and non-GMO varieties of sunflower, corn and canola oil.

Without exception, they found that consumption resulted in “remarkable estrogenic properties” in every case. (2)

Not only did these oils disrupt hormone function and trigger ovarian toxicity in the form of atrophy, constipation and follicular cysts, but it happened in a short period of time…. less than one month exposure in rats!

Even more surprising is that the study didn’t take into account soybean oil, which accounts for 60% of all oil consumption in America.

Soybean oil is already known to be hormonally disruptive, literally reducing happiness when consumed.

It does this by destroying oxytocin pathways, the binding “love” hormone. (3)

Could so much soybean oil in the modern diet be partly responsible for why so many people feel isolated and intolerant?

Possible causes of estrogenicity of vegetable oils

The researchers called for human testing to identify the methods of hormone disruption caused by vegetable oils.

They posited that contamination of the oils with phthalates and xenoestrogens could be to blame.

The violent processing and plastic packaging of seed oils can result in residues of these estrogenic substances contaminating the oils themselves.

According to a Turkish study, the phthalate load in sunflower oil is particularly high. (4)

Also, it is very rich in vegetable oils which are stored in polyethylene terephthalate or “PET” (#1 recycling in the US). (5)

Regardless of the root cause of the contamination, informed consumers should avoid these industrial oils like the plague and any processed foods containing them.

It is especially important to protect growing children from the hormone-altering effects of exposure to these oils in the diet, as the effects could have lifelong effects on fertility.
