Anyone who eats plant-based food and is looking for a delicious alternative to the classic egg and butter sauce has come to the right place. With our simple recipe you have a super silky vegan hollandaise sauce ready only 5 minutes — no cooking required!
The classic hollandaise sauce consists of beaten egg yolks emulsified with butter and lemon juice and heated over a water bath. Although tasty, this French nut sauce is quite high in fat and unsuitable for those with egg and dairy allergies or a plant-based diet.
For our healthy version, we swapped butter and eggs for mixed silken tofu and almond milk. Then we mixed them with lemon juice, garlic powder, turmeric and nutritional yeast. The result is a super creamy vegan sauce that is egg-free, dairy-free and low-fat.
Silken tofu is a very soft form of tofu made from curdled soy milk. It has a higher water content than firm tofu and is therefore easy to puree into a velvety cream. We used it in this recipe to make the hollandaise sauce creamy and rich vegetable proteins.
Garlic powder, turmeric, and nutritional yeast add flavor, color, and extra nutrients to our vegan hollandaise sauce. Just a pinch of garlic and turmeric gives a strong, pungent flavor and a beautiful gold tone to this sauce. Nutritional yeast balances the cream with its nutty-cheesy flavor and richness Vitamin B12.
A tablespoon serving has only 9 calories, 0.4 grams of fat and 1 gram of protein. Compared to the classic sauce, that means seven times fewer calories, twenty times less fatAnd four times more proteins. So go ahead, top steamed veggies or a hearty breakfast bagel with a generous drizzle of this amazing sauce. Enjoy!
