This vegetarian schnitzel is made with perfectly breaded tofu slices. Tofu is an excellent source of plant-based protein, so it’s a great vegetarian option! You can serve schnitzel with rice, potatoes, or fries.

As you would expect from an Austrian, I already have a variety of vegan schnitzel recipes on the blog:
But now I want to show you another way to make schnitzel – with tofu!
Health Benefits of Tofu
Not only is tofu crazy versatile and such a beautiful blank canvas for flavor, it also offers several health benefits. Tofu is an excellent source of plant-based protein, it’s also low in saturated fat, making it a heart-healthy choice. Additionally, tofu is rich in calcium, iron and various vitamins, making it a nutritious addition to your diet.
How to make some bread without eggs
Whoever said you need eggs to make bread, is wrong. You can replace eggs by whisking together all-purpose flour, salt, and water for the easiest, and most sticky, egg. It’s that easy and you can bread and fry everything with it.
After breading the tofu slices, I pan-fry them. You can also bake them in the oven but the bread will get a nice golden color in the pan.
