But wait, what is taco dip?

Taco dip, also known as “Mexican Layered Dip” or “7 Layer Dip,” is a popular appetizer or snack made with refried beans, cream cheese, sour cream, shredded cheese, and toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and green onions. served chilled. Usually served with tortilla chips or crackers, but you can also serve it with fresh vegetables like carrots, celery, or bell peppers. Whip this up in about 10 minutes and bring to your next potluck or Super Bowl party! It’s sure to be a crowd puller.

How to make taco dip

This recipe calls for taco seasoning. While using store-bought products is totally fine, I highly recommend making your own and using it here. I have a wonderful homemade taco seasoning recipe that mixes up easily.

Taco Dip Ingredients

Spread out the layer of beans

Open minded chilled beans can and spreads into the bottom of a medium casserole dish. I used an 8×8 glass bowl.

Make cream cheese mix

Beat with a hand mixer in a small bowl cream cheese until smooth. Should only take 1 minute once softened. Add to sour cream and taco seasoning and continue mixing for another minute. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula and pour in another good mixture until well combined.

Spread cream cheese mix place in a casserole dish on top of the bean layer.

Add shredded cheese + other toppings

sprinkle grated cheese over cream cheese mix. lace with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, black olives and green onions.

Refrigerate until ready to serve

Cover and refrigerate until serving. Serve with corn tortilla chips.

topping variations

You can definitely change up this recipe or add more toppings to make this dip recipe your own and make it perfect for your family and friends.

Add your favorite veggies – In addition to the topping I added, this dip also goes great with green bell peppers, jalapeños, avocado, or cilantro. Add what you like.

Top with salsa or guacamole – Add your favorite salsa of choice, guacamole or taco sauce.

Add some protein – Add some protein by adding cooked and seasoned ground beef, chicken or pork. I would recommend adding this right after the refried beans layer.

Make Ahead + save instructions

Can I make this dip ahead of time?

Yes, you can make this taco dip ahead of time. I would suggest making it a day before serving.

After serving, Taco Dip can be stored in an airtight container Fridge for up to 3-4 days.

How long can taco dip sit at room temperature?

You can skip the bath sit outside for sure 2 hours. Then cover (or transfer to a container) and place in the fridge.

Can I Freeze Taco Dip?

Technically yes, you can. I don’t necessarily recommend freezing anything with sour cream or cream cheese as the texture will change and your dip may remain grainy and separate. If you want to freeze it, make sure it’s in an airtight container. Taco dip stays fresh in the freezer 2-3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge.

  • Spread the cream cheese mixture over the beans in a casserole dish.

  • Garnish with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, black olives and spring onions.

  • Refrigerate until ready to serve.
