After trying the chamoy sauce, we immediately knew we had to make a recipe with it. And since summer is here, we thought why not make the famous Mexican Mangonada? This refreshing drink combines mango sorbet with sweet and spicy chamoy – it’s a real treat!
Also known as Chamoyada or chamango, Mangonada consists of four ingredients: mango sorbet, chamoy sauce, lime juice and tajin spice. In case you’ve never tried it before, mangonada tastes sweet, spicy, and sour all at the same time. It’s a drinkable sorbet full of wonderful Mexican flavors.
In our recipe we show you how to do it Make the sorbet from scratch, which will only take a few minutes. You’ll need frozen mango chunks, but you can also start with fresh mangoes and follow our tips below. Make sure they are soft and very ripe as they will taste sweeter.
While some mangonadas also use mango juice and refined sugar, we’ve kept our recipe short, simple, and healthy. All sugars come from the naturally occurring sugars in mangoes. And with a glass of ours sugar free Mangonada is like eating a medium sized mango.
As for chamoy sauce, you should be able to find it at a well-stocked grocery store or online. But if you have a little more time, why not do it yourself? It’s so easy and simple to make chamoy from scratch, and you end up with a healthier sauce without the nasty additives.
And finally the tajin. This fresh and flavorful condiment combines chilli powder, lime zest and salt. Again, you can follow our homemade recipe below or use the store-bought one. And now that you have all the ingredients ready, all you have to do is layer them in a jar, get your straw ready, and go!
