About the strawberry smoothie
This strawberry smoothie recipe is definitely one of my favorites, especially during the warmer months. Refreshing smoothies with strawberries are rich, creamy and bursting with the bright flavor of fresh strawberries.
I also add a banana to create a thick and milkshake-like consistency. It also adds another pop of healthy sweetness to the drink which is great to start your morning!
When making smoothies with bananas, I like to use coconut milk or almond milk. Using plant-based milk makes this a delicious vegan smoothie recipe, and it’s a little easier on your stomach.
I read that according to Ayurveda, eating certain fruits and dairy milk together can cause all kinds of digestive problems.
For example, bananas and dairy products cause intestinal problems. However, I always find that drinks made with coconut milk or almond milk are lighter and easier to digest.
I didn’t use any sweetener in this 3 ingredient smoothie recipe, but you can add some if your strawberries aren’t quite ripe or if you prefer a sweeter smoothie.

Step by step guide
How to Make Strawberry Smoothies
1. First you need to wash, hull and cut 200 grams of fresh strawberries. That’s about 1.25 cups of chopped strawberries. You can also use frozen strawberries if you want to make a thicker strawberry smoothie.
Add fresh or frozen strawberries to a blender jar.

2. Then add 1 medium to chopped and large banana.

3. Pour in ½ cup light coconut milk (not thick cream). For a thicker smoothie you can add ¼ to ⅓ cup light coconut milk. Feel free to add any plant-based milk of choice.
You can also add sweeteners like raw sugar, palm sugar, coconut sugar or maple syrup if you like.

4. Place the lid on the jar and blend until smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is a little too thick, add a splash of coconut milk and blend again.

Serving advice
Serve the strawberry smoothie straight away by pouring into two glasses. I suggest you garnish the glasses with some chopped strawberries or chopped almonds or dry fruits.
I recommend drinking freshly blended smoothies for the best aroma and taste.
Since the recipe uses coconut milk, it will go rancid if left at room temperature for a few hours at hot temperatures. It can also go bad in the fridge.

Expert tips
- Without bananas: I include a banana in my recipe for flavor and to thicken the smoothie. But you can leave it if you want. Simply add more strawberries to replace the banana or use pulpy, creamy fruit like ripe mango or avocado.
- For the thick smoothie: Add a few ice cubes or use frozen strawberries or frozen bananas. You can use frozen bagged strawberries to make an ice cold strawberry smoothie. You can use thick coconut milk or swap in some coconut cream or choose to add ¼ to ⅓ cup of light coconut milk.
- Sweetener: You can add any sweetener you like. Such as raw sugar, palm sugar, maple syrup, molasses or coconut sugar. But try the smoothie first, because you might be surprised how naturally sweet strawberries and bananas are together.
- Choice of milk: It is best to make this smoothie with coconut milk or any plant based milk. I would not recommend using dairy-based milk, as bananas and dairy milk do not go well together, according to Ayurveda. However, you can still make this smoothie with dairy milk, once in a while but not always or every day.
- Scaling: This smoothie makes enough for 2 servings. However, you can easily double or triple the ingredients for 4 to 6 servings.
