Delicious and easy chocolate dipped strawberries
Something about chocolate covered strawberries just feels so…decadent. I have a feeling they are often reserved for special occasions or bought from fancy little bakeries. But the truth is – they’re ridiculously easy to make at home. And with a few different chocolates and a few well-placed sprinkles… you can whip these up and make even a random Thursday special.
Granted, there are a few tricks to making them look and taste amazing. More on that in a moment. But once you get this info down, you’re well on your way to creating beautiful, delicious chocolate-dipped strawberries that will impress even your toughest critics.

Ingredients for Chocolate Dipped Strawberries:
- strawberries– Seasonal berries are best because they are sweeter and spicier. Avoid using berries with blemishes or bruises.
- Chocolate– Look for high-quality melt-on wafers or chocolate chips. Our favorite chocolates are Ghiradelli Melting Wafers.
- White chocolate– Look again for a quality white chocolate.
- coconut oil (optional)– You may need to add some coconut oil to thin the chocolate and make it really smooth and shiny.
Other deliveries:
- parchment paper
- wooden skewers
- Plastic sandwich or piping bags

How to Make Chocolate Dipped Strawberries:
- Wash your strawberries and dry them well. This is super important! If you have moisture on your strawberries, the chocolate won’t stick. Wash them, spread them out on some paper towels and let them sit for a while, making sure they’re completely dry before dipping.
- melt chocolate. You can do this two ways: in the microwave or over a water bath. The microwave is fast and convenient, but you must watch it carefully to avoid burning/overheating the chocolate. You also run the risk of your chocolate cooling and getting too thick before you’ve dunked all of your strawberries. The other option is to use a double boiler. This takes a bit more effort and you’ll need to make sure you have the right size bowl, but the benefit is a slow melt and consistent heat that keeps the chocolate nicely melted until you’ve dunked all your strawberries.
- Dip the strawberries in the melted chocolate. You can do this by using a fork or holding the stem of the strawberry, but the easiest way we’ve found is to use a wooden skewer. Simply insert into the stem end of the strawberry to dip in the chocolate and toss. Drain excess chocolate, then place strawberry on parchment-lined baking sheet to set.
- Dress them up! Ok, of course this is an optional step. But it’s super easy to make and it really makes your strawberries look fabulous. If you want to add sprinkles, do so immediately after dipping the strawberry. Don’t wait until you’ve dunked them all or you risk congealing the first few chocolates before you’ve finished the last ones. If you want to add a chocolate drizzle, let the dipped strawberries set completely first. Melt a few tablespoons of chocolate and add about a teaspoon of coconut oil, if desired. This helps thin the chocolate for an even drizzle. Place the melted chocolate in a small piping bag or sandwich bag and poke a small hole. Apply light pressure to the bag while moving it evenly back and forth over the strawberries.
- Let absorb. Let the strawberries sit on the counter until firm, or refrigerate to speed up the process. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 days.

Tips & Suggestions
What is the best chocolate for dipping strawberries?
First and foremost, it is important here to use really good chocolate. There are only two ingredients here, so you’ll want to make sure they count! Quality baking chocolate or chocolate chips from Ghiradelli, Lindt, Baker’s, or Callebaut are good options. Avoid using milk chocolate bars. Our favorite chocolate are the Ghiradelli melted waffles. You can use semi-sweet, milk, dark, or white chocolate… or a combination! It’s simply a matter of preference.
Use dry strawberries that are at room temperature.
If your strawberries are wet or straight out of the fridge, the chocolate won’t bond to the strawberries. So pull them out, wash them well, pat them well with a paper towel and let them sit until they’re good and dry for about an hour before trying to dip them in chocolate.
How should I store chocolate dipped strawberries?
Store your finished strawberries uncovered on a plate or baking sheet. Keep in mind that they only keep for about two days and they taste best when served the same day they are made.

Strawberries dipped in chocolate
Chocolate Dipped Strawberries are one of our favorite easy, delicious, and impressive treats. Sweet, juicy berries are coated in creamy, crunchy chocolate for a wistful dessert that’s perfect for entertaining or gifting.
Servings: 30 strawberries
Calories: 80kcal
- 1 1/2 Pound fresh strawberries about 30 medium
- 10 ounces bake chocolate dark or milk
- 5 ounces white chocolate chips or wafers
-
Wash and dry strawberries completely. If water remains on the strawberry, the chocolate won’t stick!
-
Line a baking sheet with parchment or freezer paper.
-
There are 2 ways to melt your chocolate. The first is in the microwave. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate (this silicone bowl set is my favorite), stirring after 30 seconds, then continue heating in 20-second intervals until completely melted (stirring occasionally). The second is on your stovetop using a water bath method. If you don’t have a water bath, you can use this method. Pour your chocolate chunks and white chocolate into 2 separate heatproof medium bowls. Fill 2 medium saucepans with a couple inches of water and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Turn off the heat; Place bowls of chocolate over water to melt. Stir until smooth.
-
To dip your strawberries, hold each strawberry by the stick and dip about 3/4 of the way up the strawberry into the melted chocolate. Lift it out of the chocolate and swirl it very slightly to allow excess chocolate to drip off. Place on the covered baking sheet. Repeat with all your strawberries. You can dip in white or milk chocolate.
-
If you want to drizzle chocolate on top, dip a small spoon into the chocolate and make a quick back and forth motion over the strawberry so it falls on either side of the strawberry. If your chocolate is too thick to drizzle, add 2 teaspoons coconut oil and gently reheat.
-
You can also use sprinkles to decorate the top of the strawberries while they’re still wet.
-
Let the strawberries steep for about 15 minutes before serving. You can put them in the fridge to speed up the setting time. Store in the fridge for up to 2 days.
