We all love a latte, right? Creamy milk, delicious coffee and maybe a wonderfully thick layer of whipped cream? There’s one thing we love more than a latte, and that’s a little variety. Our very own Starbucks vanilla latte recipe combines all of the above deliciousness with a little twist. We’ll show you how to make it at home and give some general guidelines so you can get a consistent result time after time.

How to prepare Starbucks vanilla latte
If this is your first time making our homemade Starbucks vanilla recipe, you may only need to do a few small preps. The good news, however, is that you only need to do this occasionally. The reason for this is that we use vanilla syrup to flavor our drink. While you can buy store-bought syrup, we think homemade syrup tastes much better! Plus, you’ll feel a real sense of satisfaction knowing you made it yourself.
From there, all you have to do is heat the ingredients, combine them, and add an extra touch or two for a result that closely resembles an authentic Starbucks vanilla latte.
extras? what do we mean
Starbucks specializes in coffee, so it has some high-tech gadgets like milk frothers and milk frothers. Well, if you’re anything like us, we don’t happen to have a milk frother lying around the house, so we need an alternative.
We think the best way to get a fluffy, frothy milk, just like Starbucks’ secret menu, is to stir the milk in a blender or with a hand mixer after heating it. Don’t have a blender or hand mixer? Do not worry. You still get light and airy hot milk. Be sure to check out our tips and tricks below.
Tips and Tricks
- We love our vanilla syrup so much. It seems like a hassle to make it every time, so we’ll give you this simple tip. Do a lot! Our recipe-recommended amount makes 8 cups of delicious copycat Starbucks Vanilla Latte. Once you’ve made your syrup, you can keep it covered in the fridge for a long time. Starbucks lattes to go? Yes, please!
- The key to this recipe (aside from the ingredients) is light and frothy milk. If you don’t have a blender or blender, here’s a solution. Prepare the recipe as usual, then transfer to a flask and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. Be careful when removing the lid as it can ‘bubble’ easily. You will be amazed at how much foam you can make.
- Don’t overheat your milk. Milk has a much lower boiling point than water, so you need to keep an eye on it. When small bubbles rise to the surface, your milk should be at the perfect temperature. As you boil the milk, you will notice that the milk that touches the bottom of the pot will “stick” and turn brown. A piece of browned, burnt milk? You don’t see that in the authentic Starbucks recipe, and we definitely don’t want it here!
- Just like the real Starbucks vanilla latte recipe, you can use any choice of milk. We know not everyone likes dairy. You can use coconut milk, soy milk, or almond milk as you prefer. The result is not quite as creamy, but it tastes practically identical.
- Just like the Starbucks original, the whipped cream is completely optional. We like the contrast of hot and cold, but if you’re trying to keep the calories low you can skip it altogether.
- Whatever you do, don’t confuse vanilla syrup with vanilla essence. They are not the same. Vanilla essence is a really strong agent (it even smells faintly alcoholic) and doesn’t add any good flavor to your drink when used neat.
