Ingredients and substitutions

milk I use oat milk for this recipe, but you can try your favorite plant-based milk, or even dairy milk! All plant-based milk must be unsweetened and unflavored or vanilla.

  • If you use coconut milk, it’s best to use the kind you get in the dairy section, not the canned kind.

honey If you’re looking for a vegan version, you can use maple syrup and get a similar result. You can also use vegan honey; just know that it has cane sugar. If you want to cut back on some carbs, sweeteners are also an option.

Ice. I like to use matcha ice or matcha latte for this recipe, as using it instead of ice cubes makes the drink creamier and even stronger. However, you can use regular ice cubes and still get a delicious latte.

Matcha. It must be 100% matcha powder. I use a culinary grade for this recipe. When using a sweetener and milk with matcha, I don’t think it makes much of a difference to choose that over a ceremonial grade. Also, after opening, store your matcha powder properly to keep it longer.

Iced Matcha Latte Do you drink coffee?

No, he doesn’t have coffee. However, it does contain caffeine.

What does an Iced Matcha Latte taste like?

You can taste the earthiness of the matcha powder, but it’s much less strong than a cup of pure matcha. The milk softens its flavor, making a creamy tea-like drink.

Is Iced Matcha Latte Good For You?

Yes, if it is made with good ingredients and consumed in moderation. Matcha powder and honey have health benefits, and this homemade version has far fewer calories and no cane sugar.

How to make an iced matcha latte with a tea bag?

Replace the matcha powder with a bag of unflavored pure green tea. Instead of mixing matcha powder, hot water, and honey, do this: Mix 1 tablespoon of honey with ¼ cup of hot water until dissolved and steep a green tea bag in it for 5 minutes. Squeeze the bag to remove most of the water and continue with the remaining steps. I don’t recommend it because the drink won’t taste the same as one made with matcha powder, but it is doable.

how to do it

Making ice cubes

Matcha Latte ice cubes.

You can use matcha ice cubes, matcha latte ice cubes, and regular water ice cubes:

  • Water ice cubes: use filtered water to fill an ice cube tray. Freeze it until the ice cubes remain.
  • Matcha ice cubes: mix 1 teaspoon of matcha and 1 cup of hot water, until the powder is dissolved and free of lumps. Use a manual or electric whisk. Fill an ice cube tray, freezing it until the ice cubes are solid.
  • Matcha Latte Ice Cubes: mix 1 teaspoon of matcha and 1 cup of warm milk, until the powder is dissolved and free of lumps. Use a manual or electric whisk. Fill an ice cube tray, freezing it until the ice cubes are solid.

Preparation of Matcha

Mix the honey with hot water, stirring until it dissolves.

It is very important to use hot water for this – honey does not dissolve in room temperature or cold water.

Add the matcha powder and whisk until there are no lumps.

Matcha powder dissolved in hot water and honey.

Preparation of iced Matcha Latte

Fill a tall glass with the ice cubes of your choice. Pour in oat milk (or any milk of your choice).

Milk poured over matcha ice cubes.

Add the honey matcha mixture, stirring before drinking.

Serve immediately!

Advices

Making matcha without lumps: you need to use a mixer. If you have trouble with persistent lumps each time, try whisking the amount of powder you use before adding the liquid.

Preparation of iced matcha latte without lumps: you can use a blender to mix the ingredients. Dissolve the honey first, then blend everything together and you’ll have a lump-free iced matcha latte.

Honey matcha poured over oat milk.

Sweeter version: add 1 ½ tablespoons of honey instead of just 1.

Variations

  • Keto Version: Use coconut or almond milk instead of oat milk and replace the honey with your favorite keto sweetener (I usually go for monk sugar or erythritol).
  • Vegan version: replace the honey with vegan honey (contains cane sugar) or maple syrup.

Store and carry forward

The recipe is enough for 1 serving. You can save time by doubling or tripling the recipe and making a large batch.

Store in the fridge – good for 3 days.

Matcha with iced milk stirred by hand.

Remember to stir before consuming the stored iced matcha latte, as the matcha powder will settle to the bottom of the jar after a while. And pour over ice right before drinking!
