Snicker Salad – a sweet and tart dessert salad made with whipped cream, custard mix, green apples, and Snickers candies. A potluck staple that’s super easy to make!
Growing up, this Snickers salad was at pretty much every event, potluck, and family gathering. It’s a Midwestern staple and so darn easy to make!
Yes, this has the word salad in the title, but it’s definitely a dessert. And one that’s great when people get together, it’s nurturing a lot!

Snicker lettuce
I grew up with this Snicker apple salad in Minnesota and Wisconsin, it was just what I knew. But over the years I’ve also heard it’s called Candy Salad, Caramel Apple Salad, and now just Snickers Salad.
A variation you’ll see a lot when a drizzle of caramel drizzles over it. This wasn’t traditional for my family, but it would definitely be a delicious addition. This is probably the only time I’ll say it’s sweet enough and doesn’t need it. But if you love it, do it like this!
what you will need
- Granny Smith Apples – the tart apples go well, everything else is very sweet
- Snickers Candy Bars – You need 4-5 full size, or I use 12 fun size
- Vanilla Pudding Mix
- milk
- Heavy Whipping Cream or Cool Whip
When I was a kid there was always a tub of Cool Whip in this salad, but growing up I much preferred making and using fresh whipped cream, it’s so good!
How to make Snicker Salad
Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card for measurements and full instructions!
- Wash your apples well and cut them into small cubes. Then cut your Snickers candies into small pieces.
- If using whipping cream, whip your cream until stiff.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the milk and vanilla pudding until well combined.
- If using Cool Whip, add it to the pudding mix and mix until well combined. If using fresh whipping cream, add the custard mixture to the whipping cream and beat until combined and stiff peaks remain.
- Add the apples and Snickers and stir until well combined.
- Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
recipe variations
This is a very easy recipe that you can mix and match to create different versions for different events.
- Add caramel sauce. Many recipes call for about 1/4 cup of caramel to be sprinkled on top before serving.
- You can use the sugar free version of the pudding and cool whip if you want to cut down on the calories
- Mix up the sweets! Milky Way, Twix, Kit Kat all work very well in place of Snickers.
- Vanilla is the classic flavor for the custard in this recipe, but others would work well too. Use butterscotch or maybe try chocolate for something different.
- Grapes instead of apples would be a fun twist for this recipe.
Can Snicker Salad be made ahead of time?
Yes, but the apples have a tendency to brown, so be sure to toss them in lemon juice and then pat dry before preparing this. This keeps them white for longer and doesn’t change the color of your lettuce. Treating the apples, you can make this salad about a day in advance.
Which apples go in a Snicker salad?
I love using Granny Smith apples. You don’t have to peel them, just wash them well and then dice them. They’re tart enough, they give the sweet and tart balance to this dessert, and they just go really well with the other sweet aspects of the dessert.
