I’ll be honest, part of me felt silly for sharing this recipe. I discussed it with my husband and he didn’t understand why. When I asked him how to make cucumber water, he was really at a loss. I realized that while the ingredients in pickle water are simple, the ratios and proportions are not!

Add to that the fact that pickle water can be easily customized for various additives, which also raises some questions such as: how long does pickle water keep? So I thought I might know how to make pickle water, but not everyone does, and that’s 100% okay! Allow me to teach you my favorite pickle water recipe with all the tips and tricks you need to know to make your own spa water at home.

Health Benefits of Cucumber Water

Infused water has many health benefits, but cucumber water in particular is fantastic. Here are some reasons why you should consider adding pickles to your drinks.

  1. It’s good for your bones Health– Cucumber is a fantastic source of vitamin K, which helps support calcium to keep your bones healthy and strong.
  2. It is rich in silica – Silica is a trace mineral that benefits your body in many ways. From your connective tissues to the health of your skin, silica and other trace minerals are abundant in cucumber water.
  3. It’s a great source of antioxidants – Cucumber is full of antioxidant flavonoids. Antioxidants help remove free radicals from the body. Cucumbers are high in manganese, fisetin, and beta-carotene, and they’re also a fantastic source of vitamin C.

What kind of cucumber to use?

Any type of cucumber will do in this recipe. The most common types of cucumbers you will find in the supermarket are:

Standard sliced ​​cucumbers – this is my personal favorite sliced ​​cucumber for pickle water. I find the taste a bit milder and not quite as bitter. They often contain seeds. So if you don’t want seeds in your water, you can use English cucumbers.

English cucumbers – these are usually thinner and coreless. I find the skin a bit bitter, but to be honest it’s just a matter of taste!

Persian cucumbers – these are the mini cucumbers that you often find packaged together. While you can certainly use these, in my opinion they are less powerful and I prefer regular cut cucumbers or English cucumbers.

How to make cucumber water

Preparing cucumber water couldn’t be easier! All you need is water, cucumber slices and a large pitcher.

My favorite recipe is as follows:

Recipe: 1/2 sliced ​​cucumber (about 1 cup sliced ​​cucumber) to 1 liter of water.

In a large jug, add water and cucumber. Use a wooden spoon to mix. Feel free to add add-ons if you wish (listed below).

Additives for pickle water

This pickle water recipe is delicious on its own, but you can add a few things to vary or enhance the flavor. Here are a few ideas:

Use fruit – From lime and lemon slices to berries, adding fruit to your pickle water can bring the sweetness to balance the savory pickle. Do you want to recreate spa water? Cucumber Lemon Water is the solution! Just add 1/4 cup lemon slices to your pickle water recipe.

add herbs – Fresh mint leaves, basil and rosemary taste delicious. Since fresh herbs don’t tend to get soggy any faster, plan to drink this water throughout the day.

Use sparkling water – Yes, you can use mineral water! Feel free to substitute bubbles in equal amounts to regular (non-sparkling) water.

How long does cucumber water keep?

Store your pickle water in the refrigerator for 24 hours. Your pickles will become soggy over time, allowing you to enjoy them within 12 hours. If your water starts to smell a bit off, throw the water away and prepare a new batch.
