This rambutan smoothie recipe combines three fabulous tropical fruits into one delicious drink. It’s sweet, refreshing and filling, perfect for breakfast or as a snack.
New to rambutans? This unique exotic fruit has a red hard skin and green outer spines. Its name derives from the Malay word rambut, meaning hairywhich perfectly describes this cool looking fruit.
Rambutans have light-colored, semi-transparent flesh that looks like a white grape. Relatives of lychees and longans, rambutans are sweeter than longans but more tender than lychees.
Rambutans pair beautifully with other exotic fruits, especially pineapple and coconut. So we decided to blend all three into one deliciously tropical smoothie!
You can use either fresh rambutans or canned rambutans for this recipe. You can find fresh rambutans at your local Asian grocery store, while canned rambutans should be available at well-stocked supermarkets or online.
Once you’ve got hold of fresh rambutans, we’ll show you how to open them and prepare them for the smoothie in the following steps. Instead, canned rambutans are already clean, so you can pop them in your blender right away!
How does this rambutan smoothie taste, you might be wondering? It’s sweet and a little tangy thanks to the rambutan/pineapple combination, but also fresh, nutty and creamy thanks to the coconut milk.
We hope you will love it as much as we do! So, get your trusty blender ready and let’s blitz!
