I love making fancy tofu recipes, but sometimes it’s good to go back to the basics and show you how to do the simplest recipes right. So today I am sharing with you my favorite grilled tofu. This vegan BBQ tofu recipe is perfect for a quick main dish for your summer feast so you can kick back and enjoy the beautiful weather and outdoor activities.
Serve the barbecue tofu with your choice, like my famous potato salad, macaroni salad, vegan pretzel buns, corn ribs, cowboy caviar, vegan cobb salad, or my creamy chipotle lime bean salad. Is tofu good on BBQ? Yes!! Tofu is very neutral in flavor so it will absorb BBQ flavors very well!
Can you cook tofu on the grill? Yes!! Tofu is great for grilling, just make sure you’re using extra-firm or super-firm tofu to make sure it’s firm enough to hold up to the grill.
What goes well with BBQ Tofu? Anything you would normally serve with BBQ chicken will work wonderfully with tofu. Salad, potatoes, roasted vegetables or mushrooms, zucchini, or corn on the cob.

How thick to cut tofu for grilling? I recommend that you cut it at least ½ inch thick or even thicker. If your tofu is too thin, it may break, so keep it on the thicker side.

How to Make Quick and Easy BBQ Tofu:
Prepare the tofu by draining, and then pressing it for 15 to 30 minutes. I love using mine Tofuture tofu pressBut you can follow These instructions are for a DIY tofu pressing method. Pressing the tofu releases excess water so the tofu can absorb more of the marinade and become more flavorful.
Prepare by making sure your grill or grill pan is clean and preheated to medium-high heat.
Cut the tofu block into 4 steaks at least ½ inch thick or thicker. Drizzle tofu with olive oil and rub over tofu.
Rub the oil with salt, garlic powder and black pepper.
Place the tofu on the hot grill. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until they release easily from the grates and have nice grill marks. Flip the tofu and repeat on the other side.
Brush tofu generously with BBQ sauce Flip and cook 2 minutes on each side. Brush with more BBQ sauce before serving. Serve hot.
