Who doesn’t love a good creamy sauce to drizzle, dip and toss with ALL the things and let me tell you, this peanut sauce is packed with flavor! So many delicious ways to use this sauce from drizzling over protein, veggies and wraps to tossing with noodles or even as a dressing for salads, this easy peanut sauce recipe is a definite staple to have stored in your fridge at all times.
Why You’ll Love this Sauce
- So much delicious flavor!
- Easily made in just 5 minutes using pantry staples already in your kitchen.
- Can be used in so many ways to elevate any dish.
- Perfect with noodles, salads, stir fries, chicken satay, spring rolls and more!
- You can also customize this peanut sauce to your liking.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- peanut butter – the base of this sauce and my favorite ingredient! I used all-natural creamy peanut butter which is unsweetened so if you use regular processed peanut butter you may want to leave out the honey as it might make the sauce too sweet. You could also use almond butter or sunflower butter if there are peanut allergies.
- soy sauce – I used low sodium soy sauce as I personally think regular soy sauce is just too salty for my taste, but feel free to use what you have on hand! You can also swap the soy sauce with coconut aminos or tamari to make this gluten-free.
- rice vinegar – adds a touch of acid to this sauce, but you could also use white vinegar, apple cider vinegar or even a little more lime juice.
- sesame oil – a little goes a long way and adds a delicious nutty flavor to this sauce.
- honey – this adds a little sweetness to the peanut sauce without using refined sugars, but feel free to swap the honey with maple syrup if you want to keep this vegan or even use brown sugar which is used in most peanut sauces.
- lime juice – fresh lime juice is always best as bottled lime juice can have a bitter taste and you’ll need one tablespoon which is about half of a lime. You could also use lemon juice for a different flavor.
- garlic + ginger – fresh garlic and fresh ginger are definitely best, but you can substitute 1/4 teaspoon each of dried garlic and dried ginger if that’s all you have on hand.
- water – this is to thin out the peanut sauce which you’ll want to add one tablespoon at a time until you get the desired consistency. You could also use coconut milk for a different flavor.
How to Make Peanut Dipping Sauce
I just love how simple this sauce is to make! First you’ll whisk together all the ingredients, except for the water, in a small bowl until smooth and then add in the water one tablespoon at a time, mixing well, until you have the consistency you want in this sauce. I believe I used about 4 or 5 tablespoons until I got is silky smooth. You could also do this in a food processor or blender, but there really is no need to dirty up extra dishes!
If planning to use this sauce as a salad dressing, I recommend thinning the sauce out even more or feel free to keep a thicker sauce if using for a dip. Zero cooking required!
Can I Make this Spicy?
Absolutely! To add some heat to this Thai peanut sauce, you can add 2 teaspoons of chili garlic paste, sriracha or sprinkle in some more crushed red pepper flakes.
