  • Simply. This is really done in about 10 minutes. It takes about an hour for the chocolate to harden, but the preparation couldn’t be easier or quicker!

what you will need

Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card for measurements and full instructions!

  • Crispix muesli
  • Cheerios – I use the original, but honey nut dishes work really well
  • Pretzels – it works best to break them in half so they’re closer to the size of all the other pretzels
  • M&M’s
  • Mini marshmallows
  • White chocolate
  • sprinkles

How to make a patriotic party mix

  • Mix. In a large bowl, add Crispix Cereal, Cheerios, pretzels, M&Ms, and marshmallows. Pour over the white chocolate and stir until well coated.
  • Allow yourself to harden. Pour the mixture onto a large baking sheet and let sit for about an hour. Toss the sprinkles evenly over the top while the mixture is still wet so they stick to the chocolate.

Recipe tips and variations

  • In summer you can often find red, white and blue M&Ms in the store. If you can’t find them, you can pick out the red and blue M&Ms from a large bag of regular M&Ms and should get enough for the recipe.
  • I like to use almond bark or the white candy bars that are meant to melt. I think they melt easier and much smoother.
  • Get creative with your mix-ins! I’ve used Crispix and Cheerios, but you can really use whatever you want. Any flavor of Chex Cereal, Captn’ Crunch, Life Cereal, Golden Grahams, etc. Whatever you have, whatever flavor you like, works great!

Storage of snack mixes

If you store it in an airtight container, it will keep for a few days. No refrigeration required, simply store at room temperature. If it’s the height of summer and your kitchen is very hot, you might want to put it in the fridge so the chocolate doesn’t melt.

Freeze – This is one of those that stand up to the freezer. You can store in an airtight container for up to 3 months. When I thaw it I like to pour it back onto a baking sheet and any moisture can drip onto the baking sheet and not get stuck in the bag. Usually this isn’t a problem, but if it’s been in the freezer for a long time, it’s something to think about.
