There’s a new donut shop in town! Indiana-based Parlor Doughnuts, which started in Evansville in 2019 and has grown to dozens of locations nationwide, made its first step into central Ohio. It debuted as part of a new build on Home Road in Powell, a few miles north of the Columbus Zoo.
Parlor Doughnuts has a pretty wide base, so a lot of folks seem to have experienced them on their travels around the U.S. This probably helped feed the long lines opening weekend. We snuck in late Sunday morning and only waited about 20 minutes or so.
The bright and open space features tall ceilings and a mix of seating, although a lot of people were taking their donuts to-go. But they’re also working on a drive-through.
Parlor Doughnuts features what they call “layered donuts.” These are essentially laminated pastries like croissants that are fried up and glazed or frosted, a la the Cronut.
Bonus that they also offer vegan, gluten-free, and keto-friendly versions.
At any given time they have at least 20 different flavors, and they fry up donuts throughout the day so the shelves stay pretty well stocked.
They also serve cold brew, drip coffee, and a small espresso menu. This is the cinnamon and sugar cold brew, lightly sweet without being too cloying.
On our first visit we picked up a half dozen donuts!
Someone in line suggested we try the Sandy Beach, lightly glazed and covered with cinnamon sugar.
The Lemon Bar is reminiscent of the classic citrus treat.
The Chocolate Chocolate is perfect for all the chocolate-lovers out there!
The same could be said for the Cookies and Cream.
The Raspberry Filled is dusted with powdered sugar, like the classic jelly-filled donut.
And this is French toast, which is one of their more popular choices, and rightfully so.
We enjoyed all six of the donuts we tried! It’s hard to argue with croissant-like donuts, and while their structure wasn’t the sturdiest, the flavors were all nicely done without being ridiculously sweet.
They also offer a small savory menu with avocado toast, an acai bowl, and a couple breakfast sandwiches. You can get the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on an unsweetened donut, if you like! Think of it like a croissant breakfast sandwich.
And they have special donuts just for your pups!
