This year’s collection of Portuguese treats from LC is now available for shipping! The gift basket is filled with sausage, cheese, cod, pastes, snacks and sweets. This is also the first year that we are offering my Taste of Portugal spice mix. Nice holidays!

Bon appetit! It’s December again and I’m delighted to once again be collaborating with Portugalia Marketplace to bring you another one-of-a-kind gift basket containing some of the finest and tastiest Portuguese produce in my opinion.
I’ve personally looked through what’s on offer at Portugalia and put together this must-have collection that will have you in the kitchen in no time and cooking to my cookbook (included in the basket).

While there are many new items this year, there is one that I am particularly proud of: my A Taste of Portugal Spice Blend. I’ve been developing it for quite a while and I’m very happy that World Spice Merchants agreed to produce it. I call it “Portugal in a bottle” because it has all the flavors I grew up with and cook with today.

What’s in this year’s gift basket?
The gift basket makes a wonderful Christmas gift for friends and family, a thank you for your business, or even a starter kit for your favorite culinary adventurer.
Wondering what to do with my spice mix?
Each 4-ounce jar holds about 1 1/2 cups (or 24 tablespoons). One of my all-time favorite uses is searing large shrimp in olive oil and butter. Once done, add a few more tablespoons of butter and two tablespoons of the spice mix. Swirl the pan and it’s time for dinner. Make sure you have plenty of crusty bread on hand for dipping!

I’ve also used the spice mix in marinades for Portuguese pork and mussels or my mother’s Azorean carne assada, tossed it in olive oil for a dipping sauce, and rubbed it on meats I’ve smoked or grilled. You can spoon some of this into broths, such as B. my mussels and sausage in a cataplana, and brine for extra flavor.
