Our favorite steak marinade

Prepare to fall in love with our favorite steak marinade (it really is the best). Made with garlic, soy sauce, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce, it’s a thick and gooey marinade that clings to your steaks. We love it and we’re confident you will too.

What is the purpose of marinating steaks?

I used to be a salt and pepper girl when it came to steaks. For me there are no marinades. Until our friend Richard introduced us to his secret mud marinade. The Easy Steak Marinade is full of umami and guarantees aromatic, juicy steaks. Whether you’re preparing flank steak, skirt or hanger steak, sirloin steak, or even a New York Strip (trust me, it’s awesome), this marinade will bring a new level of deliciousness to your steaks.

Marinating steaks serves two main purposes: First, our umami-rich marinade enhances the natural meat flavor of the steakAnd second, because we spoon extra marinade over the steaks as they cook ensures a caramelized crust and even juicier results.

How long should I marinate my steaks?

When using our special mud marinade we We recommend marinating the steaks for 1 to 2 hours-no longer. This is because the lemon juice in the marinade can attack the outside of the steak if left for an extended period of time. We keep the marinating time short to preserve the texture and flavor of the steak.

Ingredients for the steak marinade

For me, this is one of the best steak marinades I’ve ever used. This particular marinade for steaks belongs to the group of “mud marinades” known for their thick texture and ability to stick to the steak. This ensures that every bite is well coated and tastes and looks amazing. Our ultra-flavorful marinade requires a few key ingredients:

  • Our favorite steak seasoning ensures the perfect taste balance. Feel free to use your favorite brand, but we recommend our homemade spice mix.
  • Garlic is classic and gives a nice aroma.

Can I reuse the marinade?

Just like when making our chicken marinade, we We do not recommend reusing this marinade Ensuring food safety due to the risk of cross-contamination from raw meat. It is best to prepare a new portion each time. We ask that you spoon the marinade over the steaks while they are cooking, but only while they are cooking. This will ensure that the marinade reaches an acceptable temperature.

What cooking methods are best for marinated steaks?

That thicker, muddy marinade works wonders on a grill or griddle, enriching the meat with smoky flavors. Alternatively, you can achieve a nicely seared crust while retaining juiciness by cooking the marinated steaks in an oven Stainless steel or cast iron frying pan. Both methods are explained in detail in our recipe below.

How do I determine the degree of doneness of a steak?

To ensure your steak is perfectly cooked:

  1. Use an indoor thermometer.
  2. Remove the steak from the heat when it has reached the desired internal temperature: 125°F (52°C) for rare, 145°F (63°C) for medium, 150°F (66°C) for medium, or 160° F (71°C) for well done.
  3. Keep in mind that the temperature will rise a few degrees during the rest period, so we’ve accounted for that in the temperatures above.

This easy steak marinade is a surefire way to bring out the natural flavor of your steaks. We highly recommend our homemade steak seasoning, but feel free to substitute your favorite store-bought seasoning mix. Often referred to as “mud” due to its thicker consistency, this marinade has a unique quality that nestles beautifully on your steaks.

Enough for two large or four small steaks

you will need

2 tablespoons steak seasoning; Check out our recommended homemade condiments

2 tablespoons highly heated oil such as avocado oil, vegetable oil, or safflower oil

2 garlic cloves, grated or finely chopped

2 teaspoons soy sauce

2 teaspoons lemon juice

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

  • Marinate the steak
  • 1Combine the ingredients for the marinade and rub the mixture liberally over the entire steak. Allow the steak to marinate for up to 1 hour. While marinating a little longer is acceptable, we don’t recommend exceeding two hours for the best flavor, color, and texture.

  • Grilling or using a grill pan
  • 1Place the marinated steaks on the grill over medium-high heat and cook until golden and lightly charred, 4 to 5 minutes.

    2Turn steaks over and continue grilling until desired doneness is achieved. Use the indoor temperature guide recommended below. While the steaks are cooking, spoon the leftover marinade over them to enhance the flavor. If you use an open flame, watch out for flaming.

    3Once cooked, allow the steak to rest for 5 minutes before serving or slicing.

  • Fried Steaks
  • 1Preheat the pan over medium-high heat (1 to 2 minutes), then add the marinated steaks to the pan. Cook the steaks, turning frequently, until well browned on all sides, including the edges. You can hold the steak sideways with tongs to sear any fat around the edges.

    2Use the recommended internal temperature guide below to determine your preferred doneness. Once cooked, allow the steak to rest for 5 minutes before serving or slicing.

  • Internal Temperatures and Doneness: Remember that the steak will still be slightly cooked after you remove it from the heat.
  • Rarely: Remove the steaks from the heat at 125°F (52°C).
  • Middle: Take out the steaks at 63°C.
  • medium-good: Remove steaks at 150°F (66°C).
  • Well done: Remove steaks at 160°F (71°C).
  • Gluten Free: Use certified GF soy sauce or tamari and Worcestershire sauce.
