Nutty Bars Ice Cream – Barefoot in the kitchen

Nutty Bars Ice Cream is a rich peanut butter ice cream jam packed with pieces of Little Debbie’s classic Nutty Buddy Wafer Bars.

Exaggerated? Maybe a little, but who’s going to complain when you hand them a bowl of ice cream that literally tastes like a peanut butter cup filled with chunks of nutty bars? No one. This is who.

A bowl of this ice cream tastes like a childhood dream come true — if by chance your childhood had Nutty Buddy Bars. Full disclosure, not mine.

However, when we were first married, Sean introduced me to those irresistible peanut butter-filled, chocolate-covered wafer bars, and oh boy, I made up for lost time.

Nutty Bars are his number one choice for a packaged snack and have been for as long as I’ve known him. (Side note – the bars are now branded differently, no idea why. They may be Nutty Buddy bars, or just Nutty Bars.)

So, of course, when did I get the idea for Nutty Buddy Ice Cream? It had to happen as soon as I could buy a box of Nutty Bars from the store.

These are my favorite inexpensive containers for storing ice. They’re perfect for gifting (who doesn’t love homemade ice cream?), storing, reusing, etc. I write the flavors on the lids with a marker and wash them off with dish soap.

I have more scoops of ice cream than I can keep track of at this point and I’m definitely playing favorites. This ice cream scoop cuts through solid ice best and still delivers a pretty scoop. Bonus points for also being one of the most affordable shovels I own.

Then stir in the milk and vanilla. Pour into the ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

The most common question I get is if it’s possible to make ice cream without a machine. The answer is yes. You can make ice cream without a machine. Full directions can be found here!

When the ice cream is ready, place about 1/3 of the ice cream in an airtight container and sprinkle with about 1/2 cup of chopped nut bars. Repeat these layers two more times.

Cover with a lid and place in the freezer until firm enough to spoon out. For an even more delicious treat, drizzle with chocolate sauce, peanut butter sauce, or hot fudge when serving.

I usually get 5-6 servings from a batch of homemade ice cream. However, this Nutty Bar ice cream is very rich and we tend to enjoy it in smaller portions.

Peanut Butter Ice Cream

I’ve got my eye on these homemade nut bars for the next time I experiment with this recipe. But even if you don’t have nut bars, you can make your own peanut butter ice cream. It’s like a bowl full of creamy, cold Reese mug. Absolutely divine!

And for all of you who haven’t tried this chocolate peanut butter ice cream, I highly recommend adding it to your dessert menu ASAP. You will not regret it.

I also recently made this awesome copycat monkey ice cream. And I’m pretty sure this Nutella ice cream should come with a warning label. It’s really delicious.

And no post on peanut butter flavored ice cream would be complete without a hat to monster cookie ice cream. Ice cream filled with the best cookies in the world (according to my brother) is a big deal.
