These Nacho Fries are like the BEST of both worlds – nachos and fries! Better than Taco Bell Nachos Fries because they’re only filled with YOUR favorite toppings – no more! These fries make the best appetizer, or load them with taco beef and make them a meal! DO NOT MISS!
Dinner fries are my GO TO when they’re so super loaded! Do you remember our audience who liked Carne Asada Fries? They are topped with pieces of beef or lamb, melted cheese and fresh vegetables and are a real crowd puller. Today’s nacho fries are no less!
Imagine a delicious and flavorful nacho cheese sauce recipe poured over crispy Air Fryer french fries, lamb or beef mixes like Crunchwrap Supreme, or nacho toppings like the ones I use to make Jalapeño Poppers nachos . SO GOOD!
What are nacho fries?
Nacho Fries are simply nachos, except the base is cooked french fries rather than tortilla chips. So it’s like your loaded fries, except it’s topped with nachos.
Best Nacho Fries Recipe
We love these about Taco Bell Nacho Fries and here’s why:
- We use our favorite ingredients and toppings – no more!
- My daughter often loves them with taco beef toppings, but more often than not we just prefer them with a flavorful bean mix and we make whatever we want!
- Because they’re homemade, we only use FRESH ingredients and don’t skimp!
- We make our own flavorful Nacho Cheese Sauce recipe that literally comes together in 10 minutes and stays in the fridge for a while. No processed JUNK whatsoever 🙂
- The fries we use are Air Fryer Frozen French Fries which are so perfectly crisp but without the frying and bad oils.
- This nacho fries platter literally takes 15 minutes to make if you have some leftover taco beef – one that I use in this Crunchwrap Supreme.
- You can prep most of the ingredients and make the fries the same day and assemble the plate right before serving.
- If you’re on a budget, let me tell you, you can make an entire plate for four for the same price as one serving of Taco Bell.
- The best part is customizing your nacho fries. Add more avocados, less cilantro, extra sour cream, no beef, more cheese, etc. Make it your own way! And you will LOVE it even more! 🙂
Ingredients for nacho fries toppings
Here’s the beauty of customization – use more or less of these ingredients to make these your best nacho fries ever!
- Your absolute first step is to air fry the fries. Air Fryer Frozen French Fries are the closest in flavor and texture to fried French fries, but they’re the HEALTHIEST and FASTEST way to cook french fries! So it’s a win-win situation!
- Arrange the cooked fries on a serving plate. At this point, you can add cheese and grill for 2 minutes to melt the cheese, or you can just drench my favorite nacho cheese sauce recipe.
- For the cheese, go with the least watery ingredients—in this case, taco beef (if using) and beans.
- Now add your jalapenos, scallions, avocados, olives and all of the toppings listed above. Make sure to finish with sauces like homemade salsa and sour cream. And your nacho fries are done!
Nacho fries tips
- Use frozen air fryer fries for the best texture and flavor! It’s also the fastest and healthiest way to eat french fries.
- Always assemble the nacho fries recipe right before serving to avoid soggy-tasting fries.
- Be as generous as you can with the toppings and adjust them to your liking.
- If you prepare ahead of time, this recipe can take 12 minutes to make!

Variations on Nacho Fries
My absolute favorite would be using Birria Tacos meat for this recipe! OMG the flavors! I almost always have leftover birria meat and I even make birria pizza, birria ramen with these leftovers. Not to mention Lamb Birria 🙂 You can also try using leftover Sheet Pan Fajitas, Fajita Bowl Chicken for a new variation!
Try adding more veggies like roasted veggies, swap out the cheeses in the nacho cheese sauce like Monterey Jack or your favorite, and also swap out the size and shape of the fries.
How are Nacho Fries stored?
It’s best to assemble the plate right before serving, and leftovers don’t do well because the fries can get soggy. The best suggestion is to separate the toppings from the fries when storing them in the fridge. To reheat, always crisp your fries in the air fryer for 5 minutes and then add the toppings.

Do you season the fries?
You absolutely do not need to season your fries for this recipe as there are plenty of toppings and cheese sauce. However, you can buy and use pre-seasoned fries if you have a brand that you like and use regularly. If you want to flavor them yourself, check out these Air Fryer Frozen French Fries and use chilli powder and oregano after the cooking steps.
