The Best Turkey Burger Recipe!

Fun fact: I didn’t eat red meat until I was 21. I tried it when I was little and hated it so I gave it up. I finally got into it in my early 20s, but after years of eating turkey burgers, I personally prefer them to the traditional beef burgers.

However, turkey burgers must be properly prepared to ensure they compare to beef burgers. It’s all about finding the perfect balance of ingredients and not just stuffing your turkey burgers with breadcrumbs (no breadcrumbs in this recipe!). Using quality meat and fresh herbs is definitely the way to go.

After years of perfecting the turkey burger, I thought I’d share my personal favorite juicy turkey burger recipe with you.

Ingredients for turkey burgers

  • ground turkey – You should use lean ground turkey (usually 93%).
  • Red onion – Make sure it’s finely chopped! You can also use yellow onions if that’s all you can find.
  • Garlic cloves – Use as fresh as possible.
  • Worcester sauce – Most are gluten-free, but if you’re gluten-free or have celiac disease, be sure to double-check the ingredients.
  • egg – This will help tie your patties together.
  • Fresh Parsley – I prefer to use fresh herbs in this one rather than dried ones, but if you can’t find fresh ones you can use dried parsley or Italian spices.
  • salt + pepper – to round off the taste.
  • Hamburger buns – or salad rolls. You can also eat these turkey meatballs on their own!

How to make the juiciest turkey burgers

can i grill them

What I love about this recipe is that it can be easily made on the stovetop or the grill. You should set your grill to around 400°F. You grill your turkey burgers for 4-6 minutes per side. Your turkey burgers are ready when the inside is no longer pink and the internal temperature has reached 165°F. This is my favorite meat thermometer.

How to serve

I like to serve my turkey burgers like traditional ground beef burgers: on a bun, with all the trimmings! But here are some ideas on how to serve your food:

  • Vegetables – Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, etc.
  • Spices– Ketchup, mustard, aioli, relish and other condiments
  • cut cheese – Add it in the last minute of cooking so it melts better
  • avocado – I love avocado on turkey burgers!

How to prepare and store turkey burgers

You can store your cooked turkey burgers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Simply reheat in the microwave or on the stove.

You can also freeze your turkey burgers. You can freeze your turkey burgers either before or after cooking (I recommend beforehand to preserve freshness). Simply pop your parchment-lined baking sheet straight into the freezer for an hour. Take out each turkey burger and wrap in plastic wrap. Store in a ziplock bag. You can thaw your turkey burgers in the refrigerator overnight. Once thawed, cook as directed.
