Refreshing and fruity ice tea with lemon is the perfect summer drink. And it’s surprisingly easy to prepare! Here I am sharing with you step by step instructions and photos how to make my foolproof lemon iced tea recipe in just 10 minutes.

About the Lemon Iced Tea Recipe
You’ll find a wide variety of iced tea options in cafes and coffee houses around the world. Many include seasonal fruits for those scorching summer months when you need something sweet and refreshing.
Fruit tea is not only cool and delicious, but it is very easy to make at home. Like my mango iced tea, I make this lemon iced tea recipe several times a season. I thought it was past time I share this simple gem and am sure you will love it as much as I do!
Only 4 ingredients are needed, including black tea powder (or tea leaves), sweetener of your choice, water and – of course – lemon. But you can also customize my recipe to your taste, and you can enjoy a glass of freshly brewed iced tea anytime!

Step by step guide
How to Make Iced Tea with Lemon

1. Add 5.25 cups (about 1.25 liters) of water to a saucepan.

2. Set the pan on a medium heat and bring the water to a boil.

3. Turn off the heat when the water boils. Immediately add 1 to 2 tablespoons of black tea powder, depending on how strong you want your tea to taste.
Alternatively, you can use black tea leaves or green tea leaves.

4. Add ⅓ to ½ cup raw sugar or granulated white sugar. For a less sweet taste, you can add ¼ cup of sugar.
Note: Omit the sugar for a delicious unsweetened iced tea recipe.

5. Mix very well and let the tea leaves soak in the water for 4 to 5 minutes. For a lighter tea flavor, you can steep for 2 to 3 minutes.

Make lemon iced tea
6. After the tea is steeped in hot water, then add 3 tablespoons of lemon juice to the pot. For a stronger lemon flavor, you can add 4 tablespoons of lemon juice.
Note: You can skip the lemon juice altogether and make a simple iced tea.

7. Stir well with a spoon.

8. Then strain the tea into a steel or heat-safe glass jar.

9. Allow the lemon tea to cool to room temperature. It will take 30 to 60 minutes. Once it cools down you can store it in the fridge.
It keeps well in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. Avoid keeping lemon tea outdoors as it may start to ferment.

Serving advice and storage
10. To serve the lemonade, add 4 to 5 ice cubes to a glass – more or less as desired. I recommend adding 1 to 2 slices of fresh lemon to each glass.
If you refrigerate the lemon tea and serve it cold, do not add ice cubes.

11. Pour the lemon tea into the glass.

12. Garnish with a lemon slice or a sprig of mint leaves.

12. Enjoy lemon iced tea immediately. You want to drink it before the ice has a chance to melt and dilute the flavor of the lemon tea.

FAQs
You can prepare a sweet and refreshing tea with lime, orange and even berries.
Although I prefer unrefined cane sugar or raw sugar, feel free to use your favorite sweetener.
Other options include granulated sugar, coconut sugar, molasses (note that the taste will be slightly different), agave, or honey.
If using honey, make sure not to add it until the brewed tea has cooled to room temperature. According to Ayurveda, honey becomes poisonous when added to hot drinks and food.
Fruit tea can be stored in a container with a lid and refrigerated for 2 to 3 days.
Yes and yes. This iced tea recipe makes four servings. Simply double or halve the ingredients to prepare as many servings as you like.

Pour water into a pan.
Heat a pan over medium heat and bring the water to a boil.
When the water boils, turn off the heat and add 2 tablespoons of black tea powder.
Add sugar. Mix very well.
- Let the tea leaves soak in the water for 4 to 5 minutes. For a lighter tea flavor, you can steep for 2 to 3 minutes. If using green tea, steep for 2 minutes.
After steeping the tea in hot water, add 3 tablespoons of lemon juice. For more lemon flavor, you can add 4 tablespoons of lemon juice.
Stir with a spoon.
Then using a tea strainer, strain the lemon tea into a steel or glass jar. The glass jar should be able to handle the heat.
Allow the lemon tea to cool to room temperature. You can keep it cool in the fridge.
Making iced tea
- When serving, add 4 to 5 ice cubes to a glass or glass. You can add as little or as much as you like. If using cold iced tea from the refrigerator, you can skip adding the ice cubes.
Also add 1 to 2 lemon slices. Adding a lemon wedge is optional.
Pour lemon tea into glass or glass.
Garnish with a lemon wedge or mint sprig.
Serve lemon iced tea immediately. Stir the lemon iced tea with a stirrer or spoon while drinking.

If you don’t plan to serve the iced tea the same day, refrigerate it.
It stays good for 2 to 3 days if refrigerated. Do not keep it outside as it may start to ferment.
- Omit the lemon juice from the recipe and make a simple iced tea.
- You can swap the lemon juice for lemon juice or any citrus fruit juice. If you are using any other citrus fruit juice, adjust the sugar as needed.
- Mint leaves or fresh basil can be added for garnish.
- The recipe can easily be shortened and you can make a big batch of it.
