Iced coffee is more of a coffee drink than milky like a latte.
That being said, iced coffee begins by cooling a batch of regular old coffee. Once the coffee has cooled, it is served over ice. In addition, it is typical to add a splash of milk or cream. Some even add liquid flavors.
This isn’t the only way to make iced coffee. If iced coffee is the target drink to begin with, then it’s best to make one concentrated hot drop. Because iced coffee comes from hot coffee that’s chilled and served with ice, a concentrated coffee ensures your iced coffee won’t quickly become watered down.
Another aspect to consider: iced coffee contains about 80 mg of caffeine per about 8 ounces of iced coffee.

Iced Latte
An iced latte is a combination of espresso and milk. Think of espresso as a very concentrated form of coffee. Of course you don’t want to sit and have a cup of espresso (and shouldn’t!!) but that would be a little caffeine boost.
To make an Iced Latte, a cup is filled about halfway with ice and milk is poured in until it covers the ice. Then an espresso or two is poured over it (that’s only about 1-3 ounces of liquid). You can drink it like this and enjoy the layered drink, or mix the two together to get that beautiful brownish drink you see often.
Latte is the drink that is usually “spiced up”. take one Pumpkin Spice Latte. The above would be done; Ice, milk and espresso are placed in a cup, but pumpkin sauce is also added. It can even be topped with whipped cream and spices!
The caffeine content of a latte depends on how many espresso shots it has. A normal Iced Latte usually contains 2 shots of espresso. This would make for a drink with around 160mg of caffeine.
For example, an iced latte is about 80% milk and 15% espresso, and possibly 5% flavorings.
Buy coffee beans
You can get a variety of coffee and espresso bean blends at most grocery stores. They come in a range of quality, flavor and style. There is sometimes half an entire supermarket aisle devoted to the variety of varieties!
The thing is, iced coffee and iced latte require different beans! For iced coffee you need coffee beans and for an iced latte you need espresso beans.

The Similarities Between Iced Coffee and Iced Coffee
Iced coffee and iced latte are different drinks, but they have some similarities.
The both are caffeinated beverages you get that at a Coffee shop or made at home.
Another similarity is that both are usually drunk through a straw and served in a clear plastic cup.
The differences between iced coffee and iced coffee
These two drinks are similar, but there are quite a few clear differences that separates the two.
Iced coffee is simply chilled coffee, while an iced coffee is mostly milk with a shot or two of espresso.
An iced coffee is usually drunk either black or with a drizzle of cream, while an iced coffee is usually quite flavorful and possibly sweet.
Another difference is the caffeine content. Unless you’re getting a tall iced coffee, chances are the Iced Latte has more caffeine in it. Keep this in mind when choosing your drink.
Iced Coffee vs. Iced Latte on the go
The basic way I explain the difference in taste between an iced coffee and an iced latte is to say that an iced coffee is more.coffee-y‘ and an Iced Latte will be more ‘milky‘.
Some other important findings are:
- Typically a higher level of caffeine in an iced latte
- Iced lattes tend to contain more flavors
- Iced coffee uses coffee beans while an iced coffee uses espresso beans
