The avocado toast is absolutely delicious, but if you haven’t tried the hummus toast you are missing out!! It is very easy to make and ideal for breakfast, snack or even lunch or dinner.

You can make a few pieces with a variety of toppings to make hummus toast a complete meal.

What is hummus toast?

Hummus Toast is exactly what it sounds like. It’s simply a piece of toast with hummus spread on it. But it doesn’t stop there!

You can add whatever ingredients you want to create a variety of different flavors of hummus toast.

You can also use any flavor of hummus you like, and it can be homemade or store bought.

Ingredients for the hummus toast

To make hummus toast, of course, you’ll need your choice of bread and your choice of hummus.

Roasted garlic hummus is my favorite hummus as it pairs well with many savory ingredients.

You can use as much hummus as you want, but I like to use 1 ½ to 2 tablespoons per piece of toast. This will depend on your personal preference and the size of the bread you are using.

I’ll share my favorite topping combos below, but here’s a list of ingredients I recommend. You can use any topping combination you like.

  • Avocado slices
  • Sautéed mushroom slices
  • Sliced ​​tomato
  • Sliced ​​onion
  • Basil leaves
  • arugula
  • Sliced ​​cucumber
  • Chopped nuts

  • Ground black pepper

  • Any other spice or seasoning

My favorite variations

Toast with tomato basil hummus

  • 1 slice of bread to choose from
  • 1 ½ – 2 tablespoons of roasted garlic hummus
  • 2-3 slices of tomato
  • Sweet basil leaves
  • Sprinkle with chopped red pepper
  • Sprinkle nutritional yeast
  • Sprinkle ground black pepper

Toast with mushroom hummus

  • 1 slice of bread to choose from
  • 1 ½ – 2 tablespoons of roasted garlic hummus
  • ½ cup chopped cremini mushrooms
  • Sprinkle with garlic powder
  • Sprinkle ground black pepper
  • Sliced ​​almonds
  • Sprinkle nutritional yeast
  • Chopped green onion

For Mushroom Hummus Toast, you’ll need to start by cooking the mushrooms. Add the chopped mushrooms to a pan with some garlic powder and pepper. I just use a little water to saute until the mushrooms soften.

Avocado dill hummus toast

  • 1 slice of bread to choose from
  • 1 ½ – 2 tablespoons of roasted garlic hummus
  • ½ avocado, sliced
  • Sprinkle with chopped red pepper
  • Sprinkle dry dill weeds

Cucumber hummus toast

  • 1 slice of bread to choose from
  • 1 ½ – 2 tablespoons of roasted garlic hummus
  • 8 round slices of cucumber
  • Sliced ​​red onion
  • Sprinkle dry dill weeds
  • Sprinkle ground black pepper

Advices

  • Be sure to prepare all the ingredients before toasting the bread. It will take a while to chop everything, and if you are using mushrooms you will need to cook them. You want all of this ready before you toast your bread so that the toast is still warm when you put it all in.
  • When your ingredients are ready and your bread is toasted, spread the hummus first. Then put on your other ingredients.
  • If you use condiments or spices, I recommend sprinkling them directly on the hummus so they stick and don’t fall off.
