Make the perfect sauce using the formula below. You can make half of this recipe or you can double or triple it to make more. You can add any spices you want and over meat, biscuits or whenever you need a sauce.
How to make perfect sauce
2 cups liquid such as chicken or beef broth, milk, water, or tomato juice
4 tablespoons flour (you can use all-purpose or self-raising flour)
4 tablespoons oil, lard, lard or butter, etc.
Heat the oil or pan juices in a pan on the stove. Stir in the flour to make a roux, cook and stir until browned and all the flour is incorporated. Add the 2 cups of liquid, salt and pepper or any spices you use and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. It only takes a minute or two for it to thicken up. Cook to desired consistency. Makes 2 cups of sauce.
As you can see it’s clearly three things, a broth, flour and a fat. Such simple ingredients and perfect for gravy. We love this sauce on our roast pork chops and we made it with milk and it was wonderful. Gravy is really simple ingredients and super versatile.
