This delicious Honeydew Bubble Tea is a fruity twist on the classic Tawainese cold drink. It’s quick and easy to prepare, perfect for quenching your thirst on a hot day and feeling full of energy!
Our recipe contains all the classics Boba tea Ingredients, namely cold tea, milk, a sweetener and tapioca pearls. Then we added fresh honeydew melon slices that were peeled, seeded and mashed until smooth.
As for the tea base, we opted for green tea instead of the usual Chinese black tea. That’s because green tea has a mild flavor and doesn’t overpower the delicate flavor of honeydew melon. It also contains a lot more antioxidants than black tea, which is always a good thing!
Because we wanted our Bubble Tea recipe to be healthier, less sugar, dairy-free, and vegan, we substituted coconut milk for cow’s milk and maple syrup for powdered sugar.
Many honeydew melon bubble tea recipes use green honeydew melon powder instead of the fresh fruit. Sure, you can have a prettier light green drink by using the powder. But you’re instead missing out on the added fiber, nutrients, and delicious flavor that fresh melon provides. And a fresh melon is much cheaper!
However, if fresh honeydew melon is out of season and you cannot get it, we also give you the option to use the melon powder in the honeydew melon preparation Tips section under.
And of course we used tapioca pearls. Fun and deliciously chewy tapioca pearls make bubble tea one bubble tea. Also called Bobathey are available in various colors at Asian grocery stores or online.
They’re super easy to make and add to your bubble tea. Follow our recipe below and we’ll show you how. If you still can’t find them or prefer not to use them, you can simply make a honeydew milk tea without tapioca pearls. It will be just as delicious!
