This Homemade Pimento Cheese is an easy recipe your family will love. Allspice cheese is a very popular Southern spread and is served in a sandwich or on top of crackers or vegetables. If you’ve been following our website for a while, you know that we love pimento cheese and many different variations of it.

What is pimento cheese?

Allspice cheese is traditionally made with grated cheddar, mayonnaise, and allspice. Allspice peppers, also known as pimiento, are small red peppers that are not hot. They’re milder than peppers, so don’t think they’re hot because they’re red because they’re not.

Homemade allspice cheese is much better than store-bought and there are many different variations, but the main ingredients are grated cheddar, mayonnaise and allspice. I’m a firm believer that you have to grind your own cheese for it to be authentic. Shredding your own cheese makes all the difference.

How do you make allspice cheese?

Now some people like to take all the ingredients and mix them together with a hand mixer, I never found it necessary. I just put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix everything well. Then I let it cool because it’s much better cold.

This recipe is different from our other allspice cheese spreads. We have two different versions on our website and both are delicious. The Allspice Cheese Spread is made with shredded cheddar and cream cheese, while this one has a more spicy flavor. We recently made both and did a taste test and honestly couldn’t agree on which is better as both are delicious!

How do you serve allspice cheese?

Allspice cheese is very versatile and there are many different ways to enjoy it. The most common is the allspice and cheese sandwich, which I think tastes best on plain white bread. Well… if you want to take it to the next level then grill it… oh my god… a grilled pimento cheese goes beautifully, especially with a bowl of tomato soup!

You can also use it as a dip or spread and serve it on crackers. We prefer it on Ritz crackers, the buttery flavor mixed with the pimento cheese is really good. Goes great with celery or carrots and is a refreshing snack on a hot day.

  • 1 Pound grated cheddar cheese You can also make this with shredded Monterey Jack, any cheese of your choice, or mix your cheeses.
  • 1 (4 ounces diced allspices undrained
  • 1/4 Cup sweet cucumber relish Optional
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • prize Cayenne pepper or a few drops of hot sauce Optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Celery Seeds
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 Cup mayonnaise

I think this tastes best when refrigerated overnight.
