In the warmer months we love to eat outside as much as possible. Grilled Tofu is a great addition to al fresco dinners!
Here we use a spice mix to coat the tofu. This makes it super easy to cook and less likely to stick to the grill. The tofu is lightly pressed, rubbed with olive oil and generously sprinkled with the spice mixture. The spices create a light crust when grilling. After a total of about 10 minutes on the hot grill, the tofu is ready to serve! We generously brush it with chimichurri sauce that is so flavorful and fresh and compliments the smoky, crunchy tofu!
Grilled tofu ingredients
Ingredient Notes
tofu– Use a firm or extra firm tofu. Organic, non-GMO where possible. (Silky tofu doesn’t work on the grill.)
olive oil– A high quality extra virgin olive oil has a higher smoke point. Feel free to use avocado or any oil of your choice.
Spices– Here you can play around! We use an eclectic blend of coriander, smoked paprika, fennel, onion powder and black pepper. Easy enough to get through together! But you can also use a different mixture! Here are some we also like to use:
Keep in mind that finer spices stick best to the tofu when grilling.

How to make grilled tofu
Step one– Cut the tofu into 1/2 inch slices. Lay the tofu on a towel, place another towel on top and give it a light squeeze – no need to weigh it down as this will sometimes make the tofu too dry. Let it sit while you mix the spices.
step two– Mix together the salt, pepper, smoked paprika powder, coriander, onion powder and fennel. Place the tofu on a tray or plate and drizzle the tofu with olive oil. Make sure the oil completely covers the tofu. Sprinkle half of the spices over it, making sure it’s mostly evenly coated. Flip and repeat on the other side.
step three– Heat the grill up for about 10 minutes, allow to get hot – You can brush the grates with oil if your grill tends to stick. Place the tofu on the hot grill for about 5 minutes per side.
Serve with chimichurri sauce as an appetizer or tuck into sandwiches, wraps or bowls. So many possibilities!
