There’s a new film that’s shining a light on the flaws of dairy, and it might make you laugh out loud. Vegan actress and musician Kate Nash, from the hit Netflix series Glowstars in a new feature-length comedy The coffee fight.
Available this March on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play, coffee wars Follows famous barista and coffee aficionado Joe (portrayed by Nash) as he navigates the difficulties of running his own coffee shop. Despite Joe’s impeccable latte-making skills, the entrepreneur struggles to keep his cafe afloat as customers don’t understand his decision to drop cow’s milk from the menu and operate an all-vegan coffee shop.
The film follows Joe’s journey as he prepares to compete in the World Barista Championship—where traditional cow’s milk reigns supreme—with his team of misfit colleagues portrayed by Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls, The Flash)Owen Arthur (Amazon Power of the Rings), and love interest Jordan Stephens.

For Nash, the film itself is a tool for vegan advocacy. The actress, who has been a vegetarian for eight years, credits Bong Joon-ho’s Netflix film okja To help her ditch dairy and go vegetarian. she hopes coffee wars Help others do the same.
“[Coffee Wars] Such a great movie, and this movie really has a point,” Nash told VegNews. “I became a vegetarian because of a movie, so [Coffee Wars] can really make an impact. It shows all these different perspectives that can make someone think, ‘Maybe I can do that’ or ‘I care about that.’

Nash explained that while most of the film set is not vegetarian, many have made adjustments to accommodate his needs when they learned he abstains from animal products. “I’m lucky enough to work with people who care about making sure I get well [vegan] option,” she says. “When I was on set shine, We had a very good meal and I feel like I ate a lot.”

However, Nash made a full realization when he returned for the second season of the Netflix series. “When I came back for the second season, I saw all the flesh,” says Nash. “When you’re on set, you see a lot of people being fed, and it really makes you think. Crazy to think there are so many sets with so much meat all over the world.

Nash, who is an advocate for a vegan lifestyle, finds similarities between himself and Joe, the character he portrays. The coffee fight. Joe’s advocacy is not without reason. In addition to the exploitation of mother cows and their calves, milk production has serious environmental consequences. Dairy is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, primarily methane released when cows digest their feed and during manure management.
Dairy, despite appearing as a recommended food group in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, has been linked to an increased risk of certain cancers. According to American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Men who regularly consume dairy products, especially milk, have a 60 percent higher risk of prostate cancer than those who abstain. Additionally, scientific studies have linked high milk intake to ovarian cancer, breast cancer and brittle bones.

“Our society simply cannot continue to consume planet-crippling dairy products, especially plant-based alternatives, like those featured in our film, that are readily available, healthy for our bodies and the planet, and most importantly, delicious,” coffee wars Executive producer Jay Karandikar said this in a statement.
