The best baby bok choy recipe!
Baby bok choy really is the sleeper of all vegetables. It has such a delicious texture (I love crunchy veggies!) and takes on the flavor of whatever you cook it in. I love using bok choy in stir-fries or just plain like this Garlic Baby Bok Choi recipe.
What I love about this recipe is that it couldn’t be easier to come together. All you need is a few simple ingredients, a large skillet or saucepan, and 10 minutes. If you don’t know what to make as a side to your main course, I can’t recommend this baby bok choi recipe enough!

What is bok choy?
Bok choy, also known as pak choy or pak choi, is a type of Chinese cabbage packed with nutrients. Bok choi is high in fiber, low in carbohydrates, and is a great source of vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin A, and beta-carotene. It’s also high in folic acid, B16, and even calcium. Interestingly, it is considered both a cruciferous vegetable and a leafy green vegetable.
What is the difference between bok choy and baby bok choy?
There is virtually no difference between regular bok choy and baby bok choy except when the vegetables are harvested. Baby pak choi is harvested earlier than regular pak choi, so its leaves are more tender and some feel it has a sweeter flavor.
Ingredients in Garlic Bok Choy
- avocado oil – or another neutral oil. You can also use olive oil, which isn’t neutral, but still works and tastes delicious.
- Garlic cloves – Use freshly chopped garlic cloves for this recipe.
- Baby bok choy – cut them in half and leave the stems intact. Be sure to rinse off any dirt left on the stems by running them under cold water in a colander.
- soy sauce – Feel free to use tamari if you are gluten free
- sesame oil – I like to drizzle a little sesame oil over it.
- Red pepper flakes – These are totally optional but add a nice spiciness and flavor to this pak choi recipe
