How does frozen lemonade taste?
Chilled frozen lemonade tastes like a mix of lemon sorbet and lemon sorbet, with a texture similar to a lemon slushie.
If you’ve ever had a Lemon Chill or Minute Maid frozen lemonade, just think of it in the form of a drink.
The flavor and texture will be richer and creamier as you add the optional ice cream. However, the recipe is refreshing and delicious even when left out.
If you use the ice cream, it tastes more like the popular Brazilian lemonade (which is actually made with sweetened condensed milk and limes, not lemons).
Serve as a snack, dessert, or breakfast with a slice of healthy banana bread.

Frozen lemonade ingredients whipped
For the recipe you will need lemon juice, lemon zest, a sweetener of your choice and ice or water. Or turn the lemon drink into a copycat Chick-fil-A glazed lemonade by tossing in a scoop of vanilla ice cream or coconut cream.
While the second ingredient in Minute Maid’s frozen lemonade is high fructose corn syrup (and both sugar and corn syrup are listed before the actual lemon), this homemade version can be made without corn syrup at all.
Make your own lemon juice by squeezing fresh lemons and discarding the pits. Or you can buy 100% lemon juice at the grocery store from brands like Whole Foods, Wegmans, ReaLemon, and Santa Cruz.
Don’t forget to leave out the lemon zest, as this ingredient adds a lot of lemon flavor to the dish.
For a vegan frozen lemonade, either omit the ice or use your favorite plant-based alternative. We love this dairy-free coconut ice cream.
Other healthy alternatives to store-bought ice cream include almond milk ice cream, oat milk ice cream, Greek yogurt, banana ice cream, or homemade frozen yogurt.
Sweeteners that work well include white sugar, unrefined coconut or cane sugar, pure maple syrup, honey, or agave.
To make a sugar-free and keto frozen soda, choose a sweetener without sugar, like erythritol, xylitol, or a monk fruit blend. I haven’t tried replacing stevia.
The recipe is naturally gluten-free and egg-free. It can also easily be low-carb, low-calorie, fat-free, paleo-free, and dairy-free.

How to make frozen lemonade
Prepare the recipe in a blender
For an almost instant frozen lemonade, whenever you feel like it, combine all the lemonade ingredients in a high-speed blender with a pestle.
Process the mixture on the highest setting, using the tamper continuously, until the desired thick and mushy consistency is achieved.
To prepare the recipe in a regular blender or food processor instead of a high-speed machine like a Vitamix or Blendtec, thaw the frozen ice cubes until they’re soft enough for your blender. Then continue with the recipe.
With the ice machine method
You can also make frozen lemonade in an ice cream maker. Prepare the machine in advance, following the instruction manual for your make and model.
Start with very cold ingredients and use 1.5 cups of ice cold water instead of the 3 cups of ice. Whisk together all the ingredients in a large measuring cup or bowl, then pour the mixture into your ice cream maker.
Stir for about fifteen minutes or until it looks like mashed lemon. Serve in bowls or glasses, garnished with fresh mint or candied lemon zest, if desired.
Prepare the recipe in a bowl
Place a large shallow container or bowl in the freezer overnight and place all of the lemonade ingredients in the fridge. As with the ice maker method, you should replace all of the ice cubes with one and a half cups of cold water.
Once everything is cold, stir all the ingredients together. Pour into the cold container.
Freeze for half an hour, then stir thoroughly to break up the ice crystals and stir air into the mixture. Place back in the freezer, repeating the process every half hour until you get a consistency similar to a lemon granita.

Frozen Lemonade Flavors
To make a healthy frozen strawberry lemonade slushie from the recipe, simply stir in 1/2 cup of mashed berries before blending.
Or add freeze-dried raspberry powder or butterfly pea flower powder for a gorgeous and all-natural blue or pink frozen lemonade drink.
You can substitute fresh orange juice, pineapple juice, or peach juice for half the lemon juice while reducing the added sugar to taste.
Feel free to experiment and create your own flavors.
If you need flavor ideas or inspiration, Starbucks recently launched new frozen lemon fresheners in Pineapple Passionfruit, Strawberry Acai, and Mango Dragonfruit flavors.
With the blender still on the counter, whip up a frappuccino recipe or a high-protein and nutrient-dense peanut butter and banana smoothie.
Nutritional benefits for the lemon recipe
Just one serving of this frozen lemonade provides over 35% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C.
The lemon drink can be low-fat, cholesterol-free and low-calorie. And it’s considered a source of moisture because it contains far less sugar than soda pop.
It also gives you the option of going without added sugar or refined sugar.
Add the optional vanilla yogurt for a protein boost, if desired.
