WHAT ARE PAN STICKERS / PAN DUMPLINGS?

Pot stickers are “steam fried” dumplings, meaning they are first lightly browned in oil before being steamed. They are made with wonton wrappers and filled with fillings, traditionally pork and cabbage. But today we’re making a vegetarian version.

Forget the take away menu or the frozen bag of dumplings! With just one bite, you’ll wonder why you waited so long to make a homemade version.

WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED FOR FRIED VEGETABLE DUMPLINGS?

  • 1 cup chopped mushrooms
  • 2 cups shredded Chinese cabbage
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp dry ginger
  • 2-3 chopped green onions
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • Wonton wrappers
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil

HOW DO I MAKE FRIED VEGETABLE DUMPLINGS?

STEP 1: In a large bowl, combine mushrooms, cabbage, and green onions.

STEP 2: Mix in the egg, ginger, soy sauce, and sesame oil until well combined.

STEP 3: Pour a small amount of water into a bowl to use when assembling the dumplings.

STEP 4: To prepare the dumplings, spoon a small amount of the cabbage mixture into the center of your won tan wrap. Dampen the edges of the wrapper with a little water, fold the sides up and pinch to form a small package.

STEP 5: In a large skillet, begin to heat vegetable oil. Add your dumplings and cook for 1-2 minutes or until bottom is browned.

STEP 6: Quickly and carefully add enough water to half the height of the dumplings. Immediately cover the pan to steam the dumplings. **Splashing will occur due to the combination of oil and water. Be sure to cover as soon as possible.

STEP 7: Steam for 3-4 minutes. Remove from the heat and cook in the pan for another 2-3 minutes.

STEP 8: Remove from pan and serve with your favorite Asian dip.
