Easy Honey Mustard Chicken [Bake or Grill]

Looking for an easy dinner recipe that requires little prep and comes together quickly? Packed with delicious flavor, this honey mustard chicken recipe uses staples you already have in your kitchen. Prepare or serve fresh!

The BEST Honey Mustard Chicken

For as long as I can remember I’ve loved everything to do with honey mustard. I was the kid who dipped his chicken fingers in honey mustard sauce. Never a ketchup kid. Always a mustard kid. And yet, as an adult, I would prefer mustard to ketchup!

What I love about this honey mustard chicken recipe is that it’s easily made in a delicious honey mustard marinade and stored in the fridge or freezer until you’re ready to make it. The longer it sits in the marinade, the better it tastes! You also have the option of either baking it in the oven or grilling it on the stovetop or grill. Most likely, you already have a bunch of ingredients on hand!

Ingredients in Honey Mustard Chicken

  • chicken thighs – I like to use boneless, skinless chicken thighs, but you can use bone-in chicken thighs too. Skinless chicken breasts work well too, you just need to adjust your bake/grill time accordingly.
  • Dijon mustard – I like to use Dijon for this recipe, but you can use any smooth or whole grain mustard you prefer.
  • Honey – Use raw honey. When your honey has set, place it in a bowl of hot water.
  • Garlic – a chopped clove of garlic. It is best to use fresh garlic.
  • olive oil – this will help prevent the chicken from sticking to the pot or pan
  • salt + pepper – to enhance flavors. Feel free to cut back on salt as you monitor sodium levels.

For grilling or baking?!

These Honey Mustard Chicken Thighs can be either baked in the oven or grilled on the stovetop (instructions here) or on the BBQ*.

GRILL: Grease grill or grill pan or spray with cooking spray. Bring to high heat (about 450 degrees on the grill). Place chicken directly onto rack/pan and cook 5-7 minutes per side. Test with a meat thermometer and once the internal temperature has reached 165°F, your chicken is done.

BAKE: Preheat oven to 400°F. Pour the chicken and all of the marinade into a shallow casserole dish and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the chicken’s internal temperature reaches 165°F.

*Remove chicken from fridge 30 minutes before cooking. Bringing the chicken to room temperature (or not cold) will help the chicken cook evenly
