Get the best flavors of summer with this delicious and refreshing watermelon smoothie recipe. This frozen watermelon, fresh mint, and Greek yogurt smoothie is quick to make in the blender and will keep you full all morning!

I’m going to let you in on a secret: I start with a smoothie every morning, not only for the health benefits for me, but also because it’s an easy way for me to introduce nutrients to my daughter.
As hard as I try to discourage picky eating, I have a toddler who has a mind of her own, and that includes what she puts in her mouth. It also means it’s difficult to get fruit and veg (and even yogurt!) inside. So I make a smoothie every morning and we share it. She eats whatever I can get her to eat the rest of the day, but I don’t stress about it because I know she had her morning smoothie.
This watermelon smoothie is in regular rotation. As you can see below, watermelon has so many health benefits, but it’s also a great way for me to get some extra calcium and protein.
Let’s dive in!
Health Benefits of Watermelon
Watermelon is surprisingly rich in nutrients. Here are some reasons to include it in your diet:
- It’s a great source of hydration – While watermelon doesn’t contain as much fiber as other fruits, it’s a fantastic source of water, as about 92% of its content comes from water (source).
- It contains antioxidants – Includes vitamin C, carotenoids, lycopene and cucurbitacin E, which help fight free radicals that build up in the body over time (source).
- It is rich in vitamins A + C – 1 serving of watermelon provides 15% of your daily vitamin C and 5% of your daily vitamin A. Both are important for immune function, skin and eye health (source).

Ingredients for this watermelon smoothie
- watermelon – Seedless watermelon cubes are the key to this recipe. Ideally, your watermelon should be seedless for the best texture, but use whatever you have!
- Greek yogurt – I personally like to use vanilla yogurt, but you can also use plain Greek yogurt or any other flavor you prefer.
- Fresh mint – Watermelon + Mint is the perfect taste of refreshing sweetness, but you can omit the mint if you like.
- Almond milk – Or any other non-dairy milk or liquid.
- Ice – This will help thicken your smoothie. You can also freeze your watermelon and omit the ice cubes.
Here’s how to make this watermelon smoothie
Making a smoothie with watermelon couldn’t be easier! Simply add all the ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately for the freshest taste.

Simple swaps + substitutions
Use frozen watermelon – Adding frozen watermelon makes this smoothie thicker! Simply cut your watermelon into cubes and then freeze them for at least 3 hours.
Add other fruits – Add a cup of frozen berries (strawberries and blueberries work great) or tropical fruits like mango or pineapple for a tropical twist.
Add lime juice – Add a squeeze of lime juice for some zing
Increase the protein – Greek yogurt is a great source of protein, but if you want to add more, you can always add a scoop of protein powder.
Replace the fluid – not a fan of almond milk or allergic to nuts? Feel free to swap in some coconut milk or other non-dairy milk or beverage (coconut water would be great too!).
Skip the mint leaves – If you don’t like mint, you can omit it or substitute another fresh herb like basil.
Mix in some green – Would you like to smuggle in some greens? A cup of spinach or kale works great! You may need to increase the amount of liquid a bit.
Can you make this smoothie ahead of time?
Personally, I wouldn’t prepare this smoothie ahead of time and instead drink it immediately after blending. However, if you want to do a little prep, you can freeze some Greek yogurt in an ice cube tray, then store all the ingredients (except almond milk) in a ziplock bag in the freezer. Simply add the frozen ingredients and almond milk and blend as directed.
