- Cheddar cheese: Be sure to use freshly grated cheddar and not pre-shredded. I love making this recipe with spicy or extra-spicy cheddar cheese.
- Cream cheese: Let the cream cheese come to room temperature beforehand to make it easier to mix.
- Allspice peppers: I love the convenience of a jar of allspice or roasted red peppers. Pat dry and finely dice.
- Mayonnaise: Adding mayo makes the dip even richer and creamier in consistency.
- Spice: Everyone seasons their pimento cheese differently! I use a combination of cayenne pepper for the kick, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and pepper to taste.

How to make allspice cheese
Making homemade allspice cheese couldn’t be easier. Just put all the ingredients in a bowl and stir well. Once your dip is combined, place in the fridge for at least 2 hours. Chilling the cheese dip allows the flavors to combine before serving.
Can I prepare this recipe in advance?
Yes! As already mentioned, you should give this recipe enough time in the refrigerator. This makes allspice cheese very suitable for preparation. Prepare the dip as directed a day or two in advance, then store covered in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Tips for Success
Here are some additional tips for the best allspice cheese:
- Grate the cheese freshly by hand. Avoid using cheese bags when making allspice cheese, as pre-shredded cheddar has a waxy coating that affects the flavor and texture of the dip.
- If you are sensitive to spices, Omit the cayenne pepper in the recipe. Feel free to adjust the other spices to suit your taste.
- Speed up the work with your hand mixer. When I’m in a hurry, I use my electric hand mixer to mix the dip ingredients together. Whatever you do, avoid the food processor because you still want the texture of this dip to stay nice and fluffy.
How to serve allspice cheese
As a dip, serve pimento cheese with spiced crackers, tortilla chips, pita chips, or raw vegetables. We love putting it on the game day appetizer table alongside other favorites like these Crispy Crab Balls, Cheesy Chicken Taquitos and Philly Cheesesteak Sliders.
Whenever I have a batch in the fridge, I spread this paprika dip over my morning bagel. This recipe also makes a great spread on a pimento grilled cheese sandwich and a delicious, flavorful burger topping. Plus, it’s a delicious addition to cheesier recipes like my Stovetop Mac and Cheese!

store leftovers
This easy appetizer recipe keeps well so you can enjoy leftovers for days! How to store your pimento cheese:
- Refrigerator: This cheddar pepper dip can be stored airtight in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days.
- Freezer: I do not recommend freezing cheese-based dips as they tend to become grainy once thawed. Luckily, this recipe is super easy to make and store in the fridge!
