If you’re a seafood fan and like a little spice, this dinner is perfect. Plus, it’s so quick to assemble!

I love to cook with ready peeled king prawns. No need to deal with chopping and trimming meat – each shrimp is the perfect bite-sized portion!

Shrimp cook so quickly that we can bring the noodles to a boil and the rest of the recipe arises while the noodles are cooking. I chop up the peppers, onions, and jalapeno as soon as the noodles are ready, so there’s very little time to prep.

📋 What ingredients do we need?

Ingredients for Cajun shrimp linguine on a wooden board.
  • king prawns or prawns – shellless and veinless
  • Linguine – or swap them for spaghetti, tagliatelle or your favorite pasta shape
  • Red peppers, onions, jalapeno And Garlic for colour, taste and crispiness
  • Hot pepper sauce – I use Frank’s hot sauce for the perfect spicy spiciness Buffalo style. You can substitute another hot sauce, such as sriracha, if you like (I would start with 1 tbsp sriracha and add more later if needed).
  • Worcester sauce And Apple Cider Vinegar – It provides extra flavor and spiciness that goes perfectly with the cream
  • cream And Parmesan – for creamy cheesy delicacies

👩‍🍳PRO TIP Be sure to reserve some water as you cook the pasta. At the end we add splashes of this water for extra sauce. The sauce sticks to the noodles because of the strength of the water.

🍽️ What to serve it with

I find this to be a nice, filling meal, so I usually serve it plain, but if you want a little more, try:

You can customize the 🌶 Spice Level to your liking. If you don’t like it too spicy, just add a tablespoon of hot sauce and omit the jalapeno. The apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce still add a nice flavor that complements the heavy cream and parmesan in the sauce.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • In a large saucepan of boiling salted water, cook the linguine according to package directions.

    300 g dried linguine

  • Drain after cooking, reserving 1/2 cup of pasta cooking water.

  • Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large skillet (large skillet) over medium-high heat.

    2 tablespoons oil

  • Add the onion, red pepper, jalapeno, and garlic and sauté, stirring frequently, until onion softens, 5 minutes.

1 small onion, 1 red pepper, 1 jalapeno, 2 cloves of garlic

  • Add the shrimp to the pan and sprinkle over the Cajun seasoning. Stir and fry for another 2 minutes until just beginning to turn pink.

300 g raw king prawns, 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning

  • Add the hot pepper sauce, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and cream.

3 tablespoons hot pepper sauce, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 120 ml (½ cup) double cream (heavy cream)

  • Mix everything together and let it simmer, then stir in the Parmesan.

    75 g (¾ cup) grated parmesan

  • By now the linguine should be ready. Add the pasta cooking water to the pan along with a good splash (about 4-6 tablespoons).

  • Stir with tongs until the linguine is coated with the sauce. Add more pasta cooking water if you want to make it even fluffier.

  • Turn off the heat and divide into bowls. Sprinkle with grated parmesan, black pepper and parsley before serving.

grated parmesan, Black pepper, Finely chopped curly parsley

✎ Notes

Can I prepare it ahead and/or freeze it?
I do not recommend preparing this dish in advance. Linguine does not reheat well and there is a risk that the shrimp will become rubbery when reheated.
ingredient swap

  • Swap the linguine for spaghetti, tagliatelle or your favorite short pasta
  • Swap the shrimp for small pieces of whitefish or salmon (takes a little longer to cook than shrimp so please make sure they are fully cooked).
  • This dish easily tolerates a few extra vegetables. Peas, zucchini, and snow peas work great.
