If you’ve been to the Cheesecake Factory and devoured their signature brown bread, we’ve got great news for you! You are now ready to prepare this delicious baguette from scratch at home using our simple copycat recipe.
All you have to do is make a brown batter with whole wheat flour, yeast, cocoa powder, maple syrup and oil; let rise and then shape into mini baguettes. Finally, sprinkle with oatmeal and bake until fragrant. That’s it!
The Cheesecake Factory classic bread is essentially a malt bread, soft as a bun and slightly sweet. It contains barley malt flour, whole grain and wheat flour as well as sugar, oil and emulsifiers. The combination of molasses, caramel color, brown sugar and malted barley extract gives this bread its distinctive dark brown color.
We designed this recipe to be included few ingredients as possible, healthy and easy to find. Since barley malt extract is not very common in the supermarket, we replaced it with cocoa powder, which is also cheaper. Just a few spoonfuls are enough to give the bread dough a nice brown color. We also used maple syrup instead of sugar and molasses to add a touch of sweetness to the bread without weighing it down with refined sugar.
If this is your first time making bread at home or you don’t know how to shape a baguette, don’t worry! Our Step-by-step recipe with pictures guides you through the bread making process, from proving the dough to making the perfect baguette. Cheesecake Factory products also include buns and loaves, so you can use this recipe to make any loaf shape you like.
