12 Vegan Halloween Recipes

Halloween is both Larissa’s and my favorite time of year. Halloween means cool weather (sort of!), football, and lots of scary movies! Truth be told, we watch scary movies every week, but they really hit TV in October.

Fall is the time to enjoy some yummy comfort food. Being vegan or vegetarian doesn’t mean you have to miss out on any of them, so let’s dive into these 12 vegetarian recipes.

1. Halloween Stuffed Peppers

One of my favorite recipes as a child was my mom’s stuffed bell peppers. It was made with beef and rice. This recipe from Good Food BBC is a healthy vegan version made with bulgur and quinoa.

I’d probably add some plant-based crumbles, too.

And how cute are the jack-o’-lanterns?

2. Vegan Pumpkin Basil Pinwheels

This recipe from Elephantastic Vegan only requires 4 simple ingredients: puff pastry, pumpkin puree, salt and basil leaves.

Rather than being a “sweet treat,” this recipe is more of a tasty party appetizer.

It is also very quick to make, taking 23 minutes between prep and cooking time

3. Vegan Stuffed Mushroom Eyeballs

Vegan Stuffed Mushroom Eyeballs by Vegan Yak Attack is another fun vegan recipe that looks great for a family or office potluck.

It’s nut-free, dairy-free and gluten-free, which also makes it great to take to potlucks where you don’t know about your fellow guests’ allergic conditions.

The “eyes” are chopped black olives and the stuffing is a tofu ricotta mixture. You can use one in her recipe, or we have a few recipes on our site—ours and Laura Theodore’s.

4. Tangerine pumpkin and banana ghost

This recipe for Tangerine Pumpkins and Banana Ghosts by Weelicious is the perfect treat for kids; Not only is it healthy, it looks fun to make!

Ghost eyes make vegan chocolate chips, and chopped celery stalks make pumpkin stalks. Fun and healthy vegan treats!

5. Happy Vegan Peanut Butter Ghost

Wing It Vegan created this Happy Vegan Peanut Butter Ghost recipe that calls for just a few ingredients:

  • Chocolate chips (some to melt and some not to melt for the eyes)
  • coconut
  • Vanilla extract
  • Maple syrup

Recipe makes about 20 ghosts.

6. Vegan Halloween Cupcakes

Alison from Keeping the Peace created this recipe for vegan Halloween cupcakes. The recipe includes instructions for making your own simple batter with cocoa powder for a chocolatey flavor.

I love this recipe because the ingredients are so “clean”, with no preservatives or potential allergens. However, if you’re in a pinch for time or ingredients, keep in mind that some off-the-shelf cake mixes are vegan. You can check out some of our favorites here.

The recipe also calls for vegetable oil instead of vegan butter, but if you’re trying to go oil-free, you can probably experiment with oil substitutions.

Vegan buttercream frosting is really easy to make and looks super creamy.

Alison also shares some decorating tips for making a ghost, a monster, and a bat.

7. Vegan Jalapeno Poppers

These recipes are in no particular order but if they were I would probably make this recipe #1 or 2 because I love spicy!

Jalapeno poppers are definitely one of my favorite snacks, and this “Halloween Poppers” recipe from Every Vegan has a few interesting additions: Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and Candy Eyeballs.

If you’re a fan of poppers, you know that cheese is a key ingredient. These poppers call for vegan cream cheese, vegan feta, and vegan colby shades. You can try these Mexican-style pieces.

Makes about 20 poppers.

8. Healthy Pumpkin Fudge

I love fudge but traditional fudge is usually loaded with a ton of sugar. This pumpkin fudge recipe from Feasting on Fruit gets its sweetness from Medjool dates, making it a much healthier sweet treat!

The main ingredients of the recipe are:

  • pumpkin
  • Medjugal date
  • cashew butter
  • Plant-based milk or coconut oil
  • Chocolate chips (optional)

9. Simple dairy-free chocolate covered apples

When I think of fall, I think of apples and of course, candy apples. This recipe from Veganosity calls for vegan chocolate, apples, and shredded coconut.

If you’re not a fan of coconut (like Larissa), you can also use vegan candy or sprinkles. Add sea salt for a sweet and salty treat!

Personally, I love Dandy’s Vegan Marshmallows and some walnuts and will probably top my candy apples with these.

You can of course set up some fun dry ingredients and let the kids get creative by making their own!

For some more variety, consider caramel apples.

10. Vegan Pastry Voodoo Dolls

Love Is In My Tummy Vegan Pastries made this spooky puff pastry recipe for voodoo dolls and it looks super yummy!

I can only substitute one for this based on personal taste alone.

The filling is made from beetroot, sugar and plant-based milk. I can use a strawberry or raspberry jam instead.

Super fun and decorative!

11. Vegan Halloween Deviled Potatoes

These Vegan Deviled Potatoes by Becky Stripe in Glue and Glitter are sure to add some color to your Halloween table.

The recipe uses purple potatoes, firm tofu and black salt (kala namak) to give it an “egg” flavor.

Use green or black olives to top off your deviled potatoes.

12. Healthy dirt pudding cups

Britt over at Banana Dairy created this recipe for healthy pudding cups.

Her recipe includes a recipe for making candy worms, but you can find vegan gummy worms online if you want to buy some. Just be sure to check the label, because not all gummies are vegan!

And, since Oreos aren’t vegan (they contain dairy milk), here’s her dairy-free version.

We hope these 12 vegan Halloween recipes give you some ideas for your Halloween get-together. Wishing you a deliciously awesome holiday!
