Remember when we shared our homemade Cajun seasoning? We absolutely love it! You can easily adjust the amounts to suit your needs and you probably already have all the necessary ingredients in your spice cabinet.

Cajun spice is native to Louisiana and is a lively and powerful blend of spices popular in Creole and Cajun cuisine.

It combines influences from Native American, West African, Caribbean and French cooking styles, resulting in a unique and tasty spice. Our blend contains the following spices:

  • Hot paprika or cayenne pepper
  • Sweet paprika powder (not hot)
  • chili powder
  • Dried Thyme
  • Sugar
  • sea-salt

For this shrimp recipe we use our proven spice mix and mix it with butter, fresh garlic, And coriander (Though parsley works well too). The shrimp are quickly cooked in a hot skillet and just before they’re done, we add a dash of our Cajun butter.

The cooking process is fast, which makes it perfect for busy nights. Additionally, you can make the Cajun Spice Butter ahead of time and refrigerate or freeze it for up to 5 days, making this recipe even more convenient.

How to serve the shrimp

When it comes to serving the shrimp, you have several delicious options. They go wonderfully with rice, I particularly like this homemade coriander-lime rice. They also taste great with noodles or pasta. The sauce in this recipe is easily turned into a pasta sauce.

For Cajun shrimp noodlesAfter you have cooked the shrimp, remove them from the pan and add the cooked noodles to the remaining butter sauce. Add some starchy pasta water, then cook the pasta over low heat, stirring, until the butter sauce evenly coats the pasta. Then return the shrimp to the pan, toss well and they’re ready to serve!

you will need

1 pound medium to large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1/2 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons butter at room temperature

1 garlic clove, finely chopped or grated

1 tablespoon coriander or parsley leaves, chopped

1 ½ teaspoons homemade Cajun seasoning; see notes

directions

1Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel.

2Create the flavorful butter by combining butter, garlic, cilantro (or parsley), and Cajun seasoning. Mix well and set aside.

3Heat olive oil in a wide skillet over medium-high heat. Gently add the shrimp to the pan and lay them out in a single layer. It’s okay if a few shrimp are stacked on top of each other. Cook until the shrimp start to turn pink, about 1 minute.

4Reduce the heat to medium-low and add the Cajun butter to the pan. Stir well to evenly coat the shrimp. Continue cooking and stirring until the shrimp are consistently firm and opaque. This should take about 1 to 2 minutes.

Adam and Joanne’s tips

  • Cajun Spice: For best results, we recommend using our homemade Cajun blend. However, if you’d rather use a store-bought brand, you’re welcome to do so. However, keep in mind that the salt content of different brands can vary. Therefore, you may need to adjust the spices according to your taste preferences.
