In fact, cauliflower makes the perfect meat substitute for almost any meal. Lately though, cauliflower has grown in popularity as many people try to add it to their diet as a carb reducer. Instead of eating mashed potatoes or rice, cauliflower is a great carb replacement for weight loss. So, instead of making cauliflower wings, I decided to make a buffalo cauliflower salad recipe.
Nutritional Benefits of Cauliflower
Although cauliflower can double as mashed potatoes or be turned into rice, cauliflower has its own nutritional value. In fact, cauliflower nutrition actually reduces the incidence of various types of cancer. It aids digestion, improves memory and strengthens bones. Additionally, cauliflower is also known to reduce inflammation.
For example, my family loves cauliflower sticks, tahini fried cauliflower, and buffalo cauliflower bites. Since I had already made buffalo cauliflower bites, I decided to use that recipe to make a buffalo cauliflower salad recipe with vegan ranch dressing. The beauty of this buffalo cauliflower recipe, however, is that you can easily turn it into a sandwich, wrap, or an appetizer.
Buffalo Cauliflower Salad Ingredients

Although vegan buffalo cauliflower is usually served with blue cheese, I chose vegan ranch for this buffalo cauliflower salad recipe.
Since Buffalo Cauliflower Bites are served with celery and carrots, I included both in the Buffalo Cauliflower Salad. Additionally, I used my Simple Rosemary Infused Pickled Red Onions, but feel free to use white or red onions instead.
- Cauliflower: I cut the cauliflower florets into bite-sized pieces of the same size, so they cook evenly and are easy to eat.
- unclearr: I used gluten-free chickpea flour or garbanzo flour.
- paprika: Parika has a smoky flavor and adds to the bite of cauliflower.
- Nutritional Scream: Nutritional yeast is both a binder and adds a layer of cheesy flavor to cauliflower.
- salt: Salt enhances the flavor of other ingredients.
- pepper: I prefer fresh chilies whenever possible.
- Bread crumbs: I make bread crumbs by toasting Dave’s bread and grinding it in a food processor.
- Unsweetened, unflavored plant milk: I love oat milk because it is naturally thick and creamy.
- Lime Juice and Zest: I like fresh lime juice and zest for the best flavor.
- Romaine Lettuce: Romaine lettuce is crunchy and fabulous as a base for this buffalo cauliflower salad recipe.
- Pickled Red Onion: I add pickled red onions to salads for a tangy flavor, yet they are also sweet.
- Celery: Celery is a crunchy addition to salads and is usually served with buffalo recipes.
- Three colored tomatoes: I love beautiful red, yellow and orange tomatoes in salads.
- the carrot: I cut carrots into ribbons for texture in the salad.
- English Cucumber: English cucumbers have fewer seeds to keep the salad from getting soggy.
- Vegan Buffalo Sauce: Not all buffalo sauces are vegetarian, so look for sauces without butter. Vegan Buffalo Sauce I used New Primal And Frank’s Red Hot is a store-bought vegan sauce. Or make an oil-free buffalo sauce recipe at home.
Substitute buffalo cauliflower salad ingredients
- If you don’t like cauliflower, try broccoli as a cauliflower substitute.
- Choose any flower of your choice.
- Try store-bought bread crumbs. Or gluten-free bread crumbs work too.
- Any plant milk works for this recipe as long as it is flavorless and not sweet.
- Bottled lime juice is an excellent substitute for fresh lime juice. Add ½ teaspoon additional lime juice to adjust lime zest for best flavor.
- Add any greens you like, but I recommend a hearty green like leaf lettuce, kale, or chard.
- Try using raw red onions instead of pickled onions or green onions for a milder onion flavor.
- Fennel is often used as a substitute for celery. However, it has a licorice flavor.
- Cherry tomatoes are similar to tri-colored grape tomatoes.
- If using regular cucumbers, I recommend removing the seeds to prevent the salad from getting soggy.
- If you don’t like buffalo sauce, use barbecue sauce instead.
dressing options

Of course, the perfect marriage happens between vegan ranch dressing and buffalo cauliflower. When I was a kid, I dipped everything in ranch dressing.
Once I converted to a plant-based diet, I thought that ranch was gone forever. So, after trying many vegan store-bought dressings, I decided to make my own vegan version. And you won’t be disappointed.
Vegan ranch dressing cools the buffalo cauliflower salad spice. As a result, buffalo cauliflower salad is also healthy!
Or, if you’re a blue cheese lover, try the vegan blue cheese dressing.

Recipe FAQs
Many buffalo sauces contain butter, so you can use a vegetarian sauce like the one above or make a healthy homemade vegan buffalo sauce using the recipe in my Buffalo Cauliflower Recipe.
The difference between buffalo sauce and hot sauce is made with hot peppers, salt and vinegar. Buffalo sauce is smoother and richer in flavor than hot sauce.
Yes, don’t let the “natural butter-type flavor” fool you. It is indeed vegetarian, but it is not oil-free. So, if you don’t eat oil, I suggest you make your own sauce or buy an oil-free brand.
