Brown butter
Have you heard of… Brown butter Before? It’s just your regular old sticks of butter that you brown on the stove. It’s one easy step that will add tons of deep, rich flavor to your brown butter chocolate chip cookie bars!
to make brown butter simply!
Start by placing an aluminum pan on top medium high heat (the type of pan doesn’t matter, but the lighter the color of the pan, the better). Add two sticks of butter and grab your rubber spatula.
The butter begins to boil vigorously; Stir gently with your spatula but maintain the heat. A white foamy substance will begin to appear. That is normal! The foam disappears.
Now you can clearly see the browning of the butter. At this point you can decide when it’s done. The less time (and less brown) has a less “toasted” flavor, while more time (and more brown) produces a very “toasted” flavor. For these cookie bars You will want a dark brown butter.

Add salt or don’t add salt
Some people enjoy them sweet and salty flavor combination. I’m one of those people. I love sprinkling freshly baked cookies with a generous sprinkling of flaky salt.
If you are not one of these people, you can skip this step. They may be a little too salty for your preferences as the cookie dough also contains salt.
Let me know if you’re going to add flaky salt in the comments below!

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
You’ll be in heaven with these Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars! The rich, toasted flavor that the brown butter adds will forever change the way you want your chocolate chip cookies.
Ingredients
- 2 sticks butter Unsalted
- 2 cups Flour All purposes
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 3/4 Cup Brown sugar Packed up
- 1/4 Cup Sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- 1/2 Cup Chocoat chips More if you wish
instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Take an 8×8 pan and spray with nonstick spray. Put aside.
-
Start browning the butter. First, place an aluminum skillet over medium-high heat (the type of pan doesn’t matter, but the lighter the color of the pan the better). For these cookie bars you will need a dark brown butter. Set this aside to cool.
-
In a bowl mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
-
In a separate bowl, once cooled, add brown butter, brown sugar, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Whip everything together with a hand mixer. Once this is done, slowly pour your dry ingredients into the bowl with the wet ingredients and continue mixing.
-
Fold in the chocolate chips. Then put the batter in the pan. Sprinkle with additional chocolate chips if desired.
-
Baking for 26 minutes will result in a slightly underbaked cookie, while 29 minutes will bake it fully. I like mine a little stickier, so I cook them for 26 minutes.
-
If you want to add flake salt, now is the time!
-
Let the cookies cool, then cut into 9 pieces.
Remarks
- Store in an airtight container
