HOW DO I MAKE BLACK BEAN BURGERS?

To make these popular burgers, I first preheat my oven to 375 degrees. (I know… burgers are meant to be cooked on the grill, but it’s safer to use the oven for them so you don’t drop chunks between the grill grates.)

While the oven is heating up, open the black beans, drain and rinse. Place your black beans in a large mixing bowl and mash them with a potato masher until you have a fairly smooth consistency. I like to leave some beans whole to give the burger more texture.

Next, in a pan, start sautéing the chopped onion and peppers with olive oil. As soon as they are soft, take them off the stove.

Add the sautéed vegetables and all remaining ingredients to the pureed beans and mix well. (You can find chili garlic sauce in the Asian section of most grocery stores.)

You should be able to shape about 4 black bean patties on a prepared baking sheet, depending on the desired burger size. Bake for about 20-25 minutes, flipping the burgers about halfway through.
