Looking for the best veggie dip ever? That’s it! Tangy, creamy and flavorful, it’s delicious with veggies or fries!
Inspired by a recipe from my favorite Instagram account @sharonsaysso, this dip is literally the most delicious veggie dip I’ve ever had.
My kids say it’s “bussin!” – I say it is life changing!

Ingredients for veggie dip
This vegetarian dip is more than simple. The hardest part is grating the onion! (We’ll get to that in a moment.)
All you have to do is combine all the ingredients in one bowl:
- sour cream
- mayonnaise
- dill (fresh or dried)
- Seasoning salt (Redmond brand is my favorite)
- grated onion
- Dry Ranch Spice Powder (Hidden Valley or Penzey’s is my favorite)
Most of these ingredients can be flavored! Add more or less depending on what your heart tells you.

The best way to grate an onion
The dip calls for grated onions. This adds THE MOST AMAZING flavor without the distracting chunks of raw onion.
I’ve found that the best way to grate an onion (I’m using a shallot here) is to use the small holes of a box grater. Not the spiky holes that are often found on the back – just the small lattice holes.
You can also try a microplane, but I haven’t had much luck using a microplane for shredded onions. Blame me, the onion, or my lousy microplane, but I’m a team box grater all the time.

Whisk and done
You literally beat all the ingredients together and you’re done!
At this point, feel free to dip in there and take a yummy taste so you can add more spices or salt or whatever the dip needs.
The dip is quite thick. If you want it thinner, just beat in some buttermilk or milk.

Perfect for veggies… or chips
This creamy, flavorful, super flavorful dip is perfect for veggies. Of any kind!
- Snappeas
- cucumbers
- celery
- carrots
- broccoli
- cauliflower
- paprika
- jicama
- cherry tomatoes

It also tastes super delicious with fries, especially with wavy potato chips. I like to thin the dip a bit more for chips, but that’s just personal preference.
This dip is truly magical. It really is the best veggie dip out there. For that, I thank the shredded onion, seasoned salt, and ranch seasoning.
SO GOOD. And it keeps in the fridge for quite a while (not that you have to worry about it – it’s gone in no time!).

Best veggie dip on the planet
- ¾ Cup (170 G) sour cream
- ½ Cup (113 G) mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoon Dry Ranch Spice Powder (see note)
- 1 tablespoon grated onion (see note)
- ¼ teaspoon dried dill OR 2-3 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
- ¼ teaspoon Seasoning salt (my favorite brand is Redmond)
-
Whisk all ingredients together. Serve with fresh vegetables and/or fries.
-
Flavors get better over time; The dip can be made several days in advance and refrigerated until ready to serve.
Dry Ranch Powder: I made this dip with Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning powder (the classic flavor only) and also Penzey’s Ranch seasoning. Both versions are delicious. You can also google many easy recipes for homemade ranch powder if you want a homemade version.
Grated Onion: I love the flavor of a shallot in this dip, but any type of onion will work (yellow, white, red). I’ve found that the best way to grate an onion is to use the small holes (not the spiky holes) of a box grater (using a micro level hasn’t worked well for me when grating onions).
seasoning salt: Different brands of this type of salt vary in taste, so use one you like.
