Basic ingredients for the berry protein smoothie

This berry protein smoothie has such minimal ingredients! You really only need 3 items, and two are frozen!

  • Frozen Blueberries: Frozen blueberries are more economical than fresh ones, especially if you just puree them!
  • Frozen Banana: Buy a bunch or two of bananas. Whatever you can’t eat fresh, remove the peel, break it up into smaller pieces, and then pop it in the freezer for those times.
  • strawberry protein powder: Instead of having to stock three types of berries, use a strawberry protein powder so you can get hold of it both the flavor and extra protein!
  • Water: This smoothie contains a lot of thick ingredients. Use some water to add volume and thin it out a bit.

I used those Strawberry Protein Powder from ascension. You can use any strawberry protein you like, but if you want to buy the same kind I used use my code, Laurenk10to save some money and support me!

Ways to increase protein content

This recipe already has 25 grams of proteinbut if you want to pump those numbers, there are a few options!

Use milk instead of water. Using a cup of milk (any kind – skim, 2%, or whole) will add a an additional 8g of protein.

Another way to add more protein (and create a creamier texture) is to add plain fat-free Greek yogurt. Just 6 ounces would increase total protein content by 17g. WOW!

This last addition won’t insanely increase the protein content of your smoothie, but it will help. Once your smoothie is ready, sprinkle some hemp seeds on top. A tablespoon adds a simple 3 grams of protein while adding essential fatty acids!

Prepare the berry protein smoothie

The way you put ingredients in a blender can appear mindless, but there is a trick!

If using a smaller single-serve blender, add the frozen fruit first, then the protein powder, and finally the water. As soon as you turn the container upside down to blend, this prevents the blade from sticking with the frozen fruit and overheating!

If you are using a classic blender, start by adding water, then protein powder, Then the frozen fruit. This is for the same reason as before.
