Alumni and fans of all things Athens, Ohio: rejoice! A taste of Athens has opened in Columbus, in the form of a Bagel Street Deli cart. The local favorite, known for its giant steamed bagel sandwiches, opened a cart as part of the upcoming Jackie O’s on Fourth last week.

The Bagel Street Deli trailer is parked next to the patio near the northeast corner of the building, easily visible from North Fourth and Spring streets.
The menu centers around their bagel sandwiches. You can create your own or choose from a couple of dozen options grouped together as breakfast, poultry, veggie or carnivore. Suffice it to say, there is something for everyone. Note that they also have vegan and gluten-free options.
We caught them on Saturday morning, where a small crowd was forming around the cart. The crew there worked quickly, although we waited close to 30 minutes for our sandwiches. I’m sure they’ll have some bugs to work out as they roll out before Jackie O’s full opening.
But it’s hard to beat bagels on the patio.
Bagel Street Deli’s opening was also a chance to get a look at Jackie O’s new Columbus digs. They’re pointing to an impressive 6000 square feet of indoor space and 8000 square feet of outdoor space.
The courtyards are spread over two levels and have a myriad of spaces, from benches and picnic tables to fire pits and play areas.
There are also several outdoor bars.
And lots of little nods to his Athenian roots.
Bagel Street Deli hours are currently 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.
