Taste Like, an online platform to help discover alternative protein products in the US, has officially launched to the public.
Founded by a team of female entrepreneurs working in the alt protein space, the new platform provides a space for consumers, food scientists, companies and investors to learn, connect and share information about this fast-growing food sector.
“Alternative proteins have great potential to alleviate food insecurity, animal cruelty, and sustainable agricultural practices. With new products and companies launching every day, my co-founder, Maya, and I are inspired to create an easy way for consumers to get a snapshot of the market. feel so they can more easily convert to alternatives,” said Emily VanderMei, co-founder of Taste Like.
More than 1000 products
Taste Like says the platform already covers 1000 product profiles, including plant-based and fermented products and pet food.
Photos of each product and detailed information about its ingredients, taste, nutritional value, allergens and availability are posted to help consumers make informed purchasing decisions. The platform also offers space to rate and review, compare product parameters, filter products by dietary restrictions and participate in discussions.

“There aren’t many different products to try in the store, and even product launch information is combined with marketing and industry news,” says Justin Wilken, president of the San Diego State Alternative Protein Project. “After scrolling through Test Likes, I found many brands and products I had never heard of before. It’s a great way to discover new products.”
A communication tool
In addition to promoting innovative food technology products, Taste Like encourages consumers to convert to animal-free options with the information they need to avoid frustration and food waste.
“Given that more than 40% of food is wasted at the retail and consumer level, it would be good to have at least one consensus tool for consumers to compare taste ratings, ingredients and nutrients before purchasing,” said Maya, co-founder of Benami, Taste Like.
And beyond empowering consumers with product information, Taste Like says the platform will give companies, investors and product developers access to exclusive consumer insights.
“Based on my work at Taste Like, I believe that Taste Like will be a tool that will help companies better communicate and develop their products, as the directory works directly at the interface of interconnected actors in the food industry,” said Luca Milgram, Taste Like Category Manager.
