Air Fryer Hash Browns – Dinner, Dishes and Desserts

Air Fryer Hash Browns – crispy frozen hash browns made in the Air Fryer are the perfect addition to your breakfast or just as a side dish!

I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite aspects of breakfast is being served restaurant-style hash browns. No matter what I make at home, I’ve never gotten them as crispy or delicious as I can at a restaurant.

Well, using your air fryer changes all that! Super crispy rösti in the hot air fryer in no time at all. It will definitely take your weekend breakfast to a whole new level.

Why you will love this recipe

  • Super easy, really all you need is frozen hash browns, a little olive oil spray and any condiments you like.
  • You get crispy hash browns, but without fat and fat. The only problem with restaurant-style hash browns is how greasy they are.
  • These are super hands off so you can worry about preparing your eggs, bacon or whatever you want to serve with these potatoes without having to constantly watch them.

what you will need

  • Frozen Crushed Hash Browns
  • Olive oil spray
  • salt pepper
  • Any other spices you like

For this recipe I used a Cosori 5.8 Qt Air Fryer. It’s big enough to fit a lot of food, and the basket pops out so you can easily shake, stir, or flip whatever you’re cooking.

How to Make Air Fryer Hash Browns

  1. Spread the frozen hash browns on the bottom of the Air Fryer basket. Spray well with the olive oil spray and season with salt and pepper. Add additional spices here too.
  2. Heat to 370º F and cook for 15 minutes.
  3. After 15 minutes, try gently turning the hash browns. Spray well with oil and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Cook for another 4-5 minutes until desired crispiness is achieved.

recipe tips

  • If you want your hash browns to look more like restaurant style hash browns, you can use more oil. Instead of spraying them in the basket, mix them in a bowl with real oil first. Then serve and cook as directed. This gives you a little more of that classic flavor that you might be looking for.
  • Make sure your potatoes are frozen when you start. Once thawed, they won’t be as crispy and will get a little mushy.
  • You can really spice it up however you like. I like a simple salt and pepper mix, but you can add garlic powder, chili powder, or even salt.
  • Do you like onions with your hash browns? Add chopped onions to your potatoes and they should be nice and soft with your potatoes.
  • Keep an eye on your potatoes. Every air fryer is a little different, so keep track of the times. If you want it less crispy, start at 12 minutes and then flip. Play around until you get exactly what you like.

What goes well with hash browns from the air fryer

You really can serve these with almost anything. Their classic eggs and air fryer bacon would be a great idea. Or serve it up with some of these other breakfast favorites.

How many hash browns fit in the air fryer

It really depends on the size of your basket. I can fit about 10 ounces in mine without overstuffing it. So the normal bag size in the store is 30 oz. If I want to do the whole thing, I do 3 batches.

You mainly want a single layer that isn’t too crowded or thick. If you put too many in, your potatoes won’t get crispy.

How long do hash browns take in the air fryer?

A full batch of hash browns takes about 20 minutes. They start at 370°F for about 15 minutes, then flip and cook another 5 minutes or until crisp.

Can you reheat hash browns in the air fryer?

Yes, this is a great method. If you have leftover hash browns at the restaurant or just make too much of them, use your air fryer to crisp them up and reheat them. I like to cook at a little less heat than originally so you can get them warm without burning them. Usually at 360º they get hot and crispy again for about 5 minutes.
