These Air Fryer Avocado Fries are addictively delicious! Avocado wedges are dredged and coated in spiced panko before being air fried until golden and crispy. Serve with an equally incredible Homemade Southwest Ranch Dip! Makes 24 avocado fries and enough for 6.
If you’ve never had avocado fries before, let this be a sign that you need to change that immediately.
Because they are excellent.
I first had avocado fries at a blogging retreat in Utah in 2016. A bunch of us food bloggers went to an incredible multi-course dinner and one of the appetizers was an elaborately styled plate of avocado fries. There were a few opportunities to dip if I remember, but that was about 6 years ago and I can’t say for sure. Ever since then, though, I’ve been thinking about her.
Avocado fries are amazing! Soft, buttery insides with a deliciously crunchy exterior and even more incredible when dipped in some Southwestern ranch!
To prepare these avocado fries you will need:
- eggs – Acts as a sticky glue for the flour and breadcrumbs.
- unbleached all-purpose flour – Locks in moisture when air frying.
- Panko bread crumbs (Japanese breadcrumbs) – Is the outer coating that adds texture and flavor. Use homemade or store-bought.
- garlic powder – Adds flavor that’s sweeter yet milder than fresh garlic.
- fine salt – Enhances the flavor of the breadcrumbs.
- paprika – Adds color and subtle flavor.
- avocados – Choose ripe, slightly firm and not too soft avocados.
- southwestern ranch – Great for dipping!
Prepare the ingredients for the breading:
Beat two eggs in a shallow bowl.
Grab a whisk or fork and beat well until well combined.
In a separate bowl, measure and add 1/3 cup unbleached all-purpose flour.
And finally, in a third shallow bowl, measure and add 1 cup panko with 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and fine salt and 1/4 teaspoon paprika.
Cut 3 medium to small avocados into eighths and remove the skin and set up your breading station.
Working in batches, dip a few avocados (on all sides) into the egg.
Then in the flour.
Coating on all sides.
Dip in the egg again.
Finally dip in the seasoned breadcrumbs.
Transfer to a large platter or baking sheet lined with parchment paper and repeat with the remaining avocado wedges.
Air fry avocado fries:
Preheat the air fryer to 400°.
Arrange half (more or less, depending on the size of your air fryer) the coated avocados on a parchment-lined air fryer tray or insert. Make sure the parchment paper is suitable for air frying and NEVER preheat your air fryer with only the parchment inside.
Air fry for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden and crispy. Repeat with the remaining avocados.
How to serve avocado fries:
Serve it on a platter alongside a homemade Southwest Ranch, or tuck into warm corn husks with thinly sliced cabbage, pico de gallo and drizzle with either Southwest Ranch or your choice of sauce for incredible veggie tacos.
How to store avocado fries:
Air Fryer Avocado Fries are at their best when you’re enjoying the day. As they could oxidize and change color over time.
Dive.
Eat.
Repeat.
